Venturer Award Level VA - Community Involvement (45 Hours)

VA CI.1 – Environment (10 Hours) - “Encouraging Venturer Scouts to become more aware of the natural and man-made environment and to consider the effects of environmental changes on the quality of life” - Prepare a properly formatted handwritten or word processed report of 250 to 300 words, including discussion on the Australian Scout Environment Charter.

VA CI.2 – First Aid (15 Hours) - “Actively participate in a recognised First Aid Course” - Level 2 - HLTAID003 Provide First Aid VA CI.3 – Citizenship (10 Hours) – “An active examination of some aspects of community affairs, enabling Venturer Scouts to see better their involvement in community life”

VA– Outdoor Activities (32 Hours)

VA 0A1 – Initiative (10 Hours) –“Participate in an overnight initiative activity which must include a journey on foot, over country in which the Venturer Scout is not familiar”.

VA 0A.2 – Expedition (12 Hours) - “Encouraging the development of a spirit of outdoor adventure and a sense of determination, through participation by a small group in a well-planned expedition, having previously completed appropriate training” (minimum of 2 days – one night out).

VA OA.3 – Outdoor (10 Hours) - “Encourage Venturer Scouts to develop existing interests or to undertake new recreational activities. The outdoor activity may be a hobby or something entirely new and may be followed individually or with a group”.

VA LD.1 – Unit Management (12 Hours) - “Participate in a one day activity covering topics such as roles and responsibilities of Leaders and Unit Executive; planning, organisation and control; constitutional matters and beyond”

VA LD.2 – Vocations (25 Hours) - Prepare a Resume and do 2 interviews AND A) Research 3 different careers, or B) Starting and running a small business, or C) Financial institutions and Credit.

Queen’s Scout Level QS Community Involvement (30 Hours)

QS CI.5 – Environment (2 parts) (30 Hours) Part A: EXPLORE and REFLECT on at least one activity of the five areas. 1. People and natural systems have minimum of 30 hours in two parts clean water and clean air.

2. Sufficient natural habitat exists to support native Species.

3. The risk of harmful substances to people and environment are minimised.

4. The most suitable environmental practices are used.

5. People are prepared to response to environmental hazards and natural disasters. Part B: Design and lead an environmental project to NEW parameters. OR Select One QS CI.6 – Service (30 Hours) – Complete practical service to Scouting (outside your Unit) or the wider community. There is no longer a requirement for alternative areas.

Unit Council Member, or work with an External Organisation (can be prior / during or post Leadership Course)

 The DC interview and other observations determine the suitability of the Venturer Scout based around the following criteria: • of good character • a worthy member of • demonstrating that they are practising the and Promise in their everyday life • developing themselves to become a worthwhile citizen in the community

 For those with a specific interest or skill  Must complete Venturer Award first (10 hours)  Then enhance the same skill to QS Level for that interest (30 hours)  Then a further 50 hours progress on the same interest  Pages 66-67 in Venturer Scout Record Book  Examples: Horse riding, Scuba, CFA, etc with outside organisations as Examiners  Possible VET qualifications

 Set the challenge:  The Venturer and the Examiner are to agree on the level of understanding and achievement that the Venturer is required to attain over an agreed period of time· to set a reasonable challenge for the individual. The challenge must meet all the requirements listed in the "Venturer Scout Record Book".  Complete the challenge:  The Venturer then undertakes and completes the project within the agreed time period, and should consult the Examiner and l or VL if experiencing problems with progress or any other aspects of the project.  Assess the completed challenge:  upon completion, the Venturer and Examiner should use the agreed levels of understanding and achievement to assess  the work completed, the effort expended and improvement or achievement that the Venturer has attained.  it is possible that some additional work may be required, by agreement between the Venturer and Examiner.  on satisfactory completion, the Examiner will endorse the "Venturer Scout Record Book".

 Note that a fixed pass level is not intended, rather, some worthwhile improvement in the performance or understanding of the subject.

 A key factor is that there may be some difference in understanding and ability for individual Venturers, which must be taken into account in the final assessment.
