As such, Larnaka is abundant in historic and archaeological places, museums and ancient places of faith. But behind the well-known attractions, Larnaka’s narrow streets are filled with hidden gems. This booklet, which is issued for the twentieth consecutive year, aims to assist you in discov- ering Larnaka “behind the scenes”. Recommendations on new points of interest, events which will entertain you and get you acquainted with the Cypriot culture and of course, valuable tips from the locals. Every piece of Larnaka offers something special and we want to show it to our esteemed visitors. What I personally love about Larnaka is the fact that it has the atmosphere of a small city and the convenience of a metropolitan area. Larnaka has qualities that distinguish the region from other holiday resorts. You can rarely find a place which combines historic attractions, the commercial centre, cosmopolitan promenades and blue-flag awarded beaches together with numerous activities, all within a short distance. So, Larna- ka’s compact size is what makes the destination special, to- gether with other characteristics which can be revealed by reading this edition. The Larnaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry wishes you a memorable holiday! Make sure that when you de- part, your suitcase is filled with memories, nice feelings, new tastes, the stories of the locals and most of all, spiritual rejuvenation.

A WORLD OF WATER-BASED SPORTING ACTIVITIES TO ENJOY! In a region surrounded by warm, clean and clear waters, it is only natural that water sports are in abundance, with plenty to choose from in Larnaka! The range of water sports available start from gentle activities in shallower waters, to pursuits that offer an exhilarating thrill for even the most daring of athletes… and everything in between! A large number of licensed water sports operators can be found directly on public, organised beaches, where a selection of both fun or challenging sea activities can be booked on the spot, including: banana boats; tube rides; pedalos; water skiing; wakeboarding; bodyboarding; SUP; parasailing; jet skiing; wind- surfing; canoeing and kayaking. The relevant guidance and/or safety equipment is provided by the water sport operators, who also offer arrangements for water sports courses. For jet skis and speed boats rentals, please note that the mini- mum age of the user is 18 years, and a safety / operation briefing prior to their use is provided by the water sports operators. With its enviable and consistent sea and wind conditions all year round, two of the biggest and most adrenaline-filled sea sports can be enjoyed in Larnaka, with the region known worldwide as a top destination for both windsurfing and kitesurfing. Although different in their style and skill requirements, both sports rely on balance, coordination and certain climatic conditions, which are perfectly provided at Larnaka’s coasts.

THE SWEETEST IDENTITY

What’s the latest buzz in Larnaka region? Nine mountainous communities have cemented their beekeeping and honey pro- ducing identity as part of the new ‘Honey Routes - Cyprus’ tour- ism programme! The European MEDFEST programme with the Troodos Network of Thematic Centers as partner focuses on the promotion of a common identity for the communities Kato Drys, Kato Lefkara, Layia, Melini, Odou, Ora, Vavla, Vavatsinia and Agioi Vavatsinia, which share a rich tradition of beekeeping and honey produc- tion. The programme will help to revitalise the rural communi- ties through the organisation of bee-themed festivals and na- ture trails, and will be instrumental in preserving biodiversity through various actions such as the creation of bee hotels made of natural materials. The beneficial properties of honey and its versatility will also be actively promoted, including its incorpora- tion in recipes and on local menus. Each community will bear the logo of ‘Larnaka Honey Villages’ to strengthen its identity and will participate in the various activi- ties including three festivals. Take a trip to tour the nine communities this summer and enjoy the sweetest local experience!

LARNAKA ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL HOTEL CHAINS Larnaka is pleased to welcome one of the world’s biggest bou- tique hotel brands; the Indigo by IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group). This is IHG’s first hotel to operate in Cyprus. The Hotel Indigo Cyprus will be located in one of the city’s historic areas, near St. Lazarus Byzantine church and is ex- pected to operate by the end of 2019. The hotel sees a pair of old houses gracefully combined with a contemporary four-storey building to offer a captivating blend of the old and the new - much like the city of Larnaka itself. This matches Larnaka’s vision to maintain and enhance the city’s unique character through the restoration of listed houses. This is the third in a raw international hotel chain which is an- nounced to operate in Larnaka, after Radisson Blu and Best Western. It is a fact that Larnaka is becoming a key player in tourism, attracting the interest of investors and tour operators. More specifically, over the last three years, nine units have oper- ated in Larnaka, with a total capacity of 614 beds. The last addi- tion was the Hai hotel in the Traditional Neighbourhood of the city centre, which also combines a development of old and new. Within 2020, at least seven new units are expected to operate, mainly in the city of Larnaka and Voroklini area. Some of these are the Radisson Beach Resort Larnaca, Solaar Boutique Hotel & Spa, Samirana Boutique Hotel, Alexia City Hotel, Hotel Indigo Cyprus-Larnaca και Executive Residency Zenon by Best Western.
