Sloan Science + Tech Pilot Script Competition.

We are also committed to keeping our tradition of building community around the arts in the North Fork. We knew we had to do everything possible to host a safe physical gathering, and we knew a drive-in event would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We are grateful to Borghese Vineyard for this beautiful scene.

We are also incredibly grateful to Bloomberg Philanthropies, to the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and to the Suffolk County Economic Development Corporation for the tremendous support. We are grateful to our wonderful judges, our advisory boards, our executive committee, and our team.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4TH | 7 PM Distemper *world Premiere*

HOME > TV > NEWS APRIL 24, 2018 3:49PM PT The winner of the North Fork TV Festival’s 2019 Science + Technology Script Competition North Fork TV Festival Sets Judges Panel is ‘Distemper’, written by emerging author Maxwell Pitagno, and directed and produced by Elias Plagianos. Set in the 1920s, ‘Distemper’ tells the true story of pathologist and LGBT icon Louise Pearce as she works to find a cure for African Trypanosomiasis, or African sleeping sickness. Trypanosomiasis devastated areas across Africa, infecting millions across the Belgian Congo and killing two-thirds of the population of the Uganda protectorate between 1900 and 1906 alone. This is a compelling and inspirational story of both scientific research for the benefit of humankind and the personal triumph of a woman and homosexual at a time when both groups were severely underrepresented and discriminated against in the scientific community.

With the support of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the North Fork TV Festival produced the pilot episode of Distemper which is ultimately planned as a six-episode television mini-series. The pilot will premiere Saturday, October 4th at 7 pm, at Greenport Theatre.
