[1] [2] Offer's first major work was the 1999 comedy The Underground Comedy Movie. Offer owner, manufacturer, and display in television commercials the products of ShamWow!, an absorbent towel; the Slap Chop, kitchen utensi; a lint cylinder called Schticky; a liquid detergent called InVinceable; and another kitchen utensi called crank chop. He has also officially advertised other products that he does not own, such as Quicky Grass. Early Life Offer Shlomi was born in Beersheva, Israel and grew up in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York. As a kid, he was fascinated by crazy eddie commercials. He dropped out of high school when he was 17 and moved to Los Angeles, where he changed his name to Vince Offer. [5] In 1999, Offer directed and starred in The Underground Comedy Movie, which received extremely negative reviews. DVDs of the film have been released via television infomercial. The film also led to several lawsuits. Although the film was released and screened in 1999, Offer went bankrupt in 2002 and video distribution plans at home were shed. Offer, who was formerly a successful vegetable chopper salesman and businessman, is re-selling vegetable shredder swap meets to support himself and make money to finish his film project. Within a few months, he had earned enough to get back into production, and the film was finally completed, released, and marketed entirely by late-night infomercials that the offer paid for his earnings in the swap correspond to vegetable chopper sales. The film has more than 100,000 copies, and Offer has used the proceeds from the sales to sue the Church of Scientology. [6] He was a former Scientologist. [7] In 2011, he starred in Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill. Title character Jill, played by Sandler, referred to her as the ShamWow guy. In 2013, Offer released the universally panned InAPPropriate Comedy, which he directed, wrote and appeared as the character Peeping Tom. [9] The film was originally intended to be a follow-up to its 2010 anthology Underground Comedy. The film stars Rob Schneider, Michelle Rodriguez, Adrien Brody and Lindsay Lohan. Examples of film sketches Ari Shaffir in The Amazing Racist, a deliberately offensive hidden camera encounter with members of various minority groups, and Brody the Flirty Harry, a Dirty Harry sporare. [10] Infomercial's marketing background offer used its own money to finance Underground Comedy Movie, but it was difficult to sell. He made the trailer an infomercial and claims to have sold 50,000 copies via direct order and 50,000 more in stores. [6] In 2010, he released his album Eminem Recovery. [11] ShamWow in 2006, Offer began to market a cleaning agent that saw flea markets, an absorbent towel that he called ShamWow! [6] [12] The title of the product derives from the French pronunciation of zergek, which is often abbreviated to shammy in English. Offer visited the factory in Germany, where the product is made and decided to include this fact on the TV track. [6] In the summer of 2007, the commercial, which was budgeted at $20,000, received critical acclaim. [6] From Slate.com, Seth Stevenson praised the offer for his impressive and subtle mastery of the pitcher's art (with lyrics such as you know that Germans always do good things), and wondered if offer's abrasive manners could mean a unique new strategy in pitchdom's yearbook. Stevenson compared his offer to previous, more upbeat television pitchmen like Billy Mays and home shopping network hosts and concluded that the offer of smooth-talking condescension is more suited to the current zeitgeist than the serious fervor of spokesmen such as Mays and Ron Popeil. [12] Consumer Reports reports that ShamWow! The album originally claimed that the product weighed 20 times the liquid. Later, the infomercial changed offer claiming the ShamWow! it lasted 12 times the weight of liquid, then again at 10 times. Consumer Reports did its own test of the product and found that it actually lasts 10 times its weight in liquid, but no more. [13] According to the offer, he has been offering millions of towels. Contrary to claims that the absorbent of towels is too hyped, he replies that he returns low. [6] Billy Mays pitched two years after ShamWow! Zorbeez. Mays noted that ShamWow! advertisements use many of the same product presentations as previously manufactured Zorbeez commercial. In February 2009, while on the Adam Carolla radio show, Billy Mays publicly challenged his bid to pitch off among the proper absorbent towel products. [summons required] Popular Mechanics tested the absorbent of the two towel products and declared ShamWow! it was more effective for the two, but noted: If you have reusable cloth rags (and a roll of paper towel safety), you will not have any product required. [14] During the episode, it was suggested that the Popular Mechanics tester did not use Zorbeez. After the popularity of the commercial, TMZ in 2009 posted a remix of the commercial on its website. [16] The remix was originally created by DJ Steve Porter and uploaded to YouTube. [17] In 2020, Offer began selling ShamWow! masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [18] Vince threw The Slap Slice in August 2008, with Offer, who had previously been marketing kitchen utensils at exchange meetings,[12] appearing in another kitchen gadget infomercial, promoting Slap Chop and Graty. The Slap Chop is a hand-chopping tool with internal blades; to operate, the user places it above a food and slaps the button on top. The Graty is a cheese grater operated by placing the cheese inside and then turning the outside housing into the appliance, causing the cheese to grate. [19] Both devices are available in a variety of colors. AdWeek's AdWeek has recorded its aggressiveness and dual entendres use as a love for my balls, and according to the Adweek blog, the offer helped the man who beat Billy Mays in his own game. [summons required] Billy Mays was promoting a similar product kit that included a Quick Chop tool and Quick File Tool before offering slap chop/graty product kit. Mays again noted that the Slap Chop commercials use many of the same demos as the previously produced Quick Chop commercial. Mays said in the same Adam Carolla radio show interview in February 2009 that the offer stole not only the Zorbeez product idea but also the Quick Chop idea. [21] In April 2009, DJ Steve Porter released an electro-themed Slap Chop Rap Auto Tune remix that became cult in July 2009. [22] During the 2013 blockbuster Marvel superhero film Iron Man 3, a short encyclical shows an excerpt from a television Slapchop commercial. [24] In April 2019, DJ Steve Porter released a 10-year anniversary video for the original electro-themed Slap Chop Rap Auto Tune remix. [25] In 2012, Schticky returned to the television sales of Schticky, a reusable lint roller available in three sizes: small Schticky, Schticky and the great Schticky. The commercial makes many references to the other two commercials for ShamWow and Slap Chop, with the offer saying many of his catchphrases. He also pokes fun at his 2009 arrest for posing for a fake mugshot. [26] [27] The Schticky commercial was written by comedian Dante. Canada Green In April 2014, Offer appeared in the Canada Green commercial advertising for the Quicky Grass product. [29] Legal Issues Lawsuits The Underground Comedy Movie was the subject of a lawsuit filed on September 23, 1998 in an offer against 20th Century Fox and Bobby and Peter Farrelly, the co-directors of There's Something About Mary. Offer claimed that 14 scenes of Mary were recorded for the film. The case was dismissed in 2000, the judge ordered the offer more than $66,000 in attorney's fees. [30] In 2004, Offer sent prnewsonline.com press release announcing his wish to sue the Church of Scientology. In 1997, while filming The Underground Comedy Movie was underway, the Church of Scientology reportedly launched a large-scale discrediting campaign against Offer and his film. (Offer was a Scientologist at the time.) [8] The director claimed that the Scientologists Celebrity Center in Hollywood threatened scientology friends in the film industry if they didn't write malicious reports against the Offer. He was arrested on February 7, 2009, and a 26-year-old escort was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida, after a physical altercation. [2] According to the police report, the attendant bit Offer's tongue and refused to let him go, at which point Offer began beating him in the head and leaving him with bruises and fractures. [31] [32] Police later released photos of the bloody offer, the hotel room and the abused prostitute. [33] Prosecutors later declined to prosecute both individuals. [2] [34] When Offer later spoke of the arrest, he stated that he had probably saved my life. Vince Offer married Melody Claire Mandate on April 18, 2014. On October 18, 2018, her term of office filed for divorce. [36] References ^ a b Rovellurl, Darren (January 27, 2009). The first interview with Vince from ShamWow!.
