SUNY CORTLAND TRACK & FIELD T HE ‘CORTL AND CLASSIC’ I NVITATIONAL Friday April 19 – Saturday April 20, 2019

Thank you for your participation in the 2019 Cortland Classic! The SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex features an 8-lane All-Weather track (the Beynon 300 surface was installed in 2016), Brushed Concrete Throwing Rings, and a grass javelin runway. UCS Grand Prix starting blocks are provided; locker and shower facilities are available in nearby Park Center. Please limit spikes for any events on the Beynon surface to ¼” pyramids or shorter.

An updated schedule is on the third page. Please note that we are requiring declarations for the 200. We would like to avoid having any open lanes during those events! Declarations and clerking for all track events will take place under the stadium concourse. Please email any scratches directly to Pat Leone (of Leone Timing): [email protected] before 9AM on Friday, 4/19. Our goal is to have all of our heats filled! Live results will be available through www.leonetiming.com.

A certified athletic trainer will be available for pre-participation taping and acute injury management for any collegiate athletes. Please bring a medical kit with you. Unattached athletes are responsible for their own medical care. Please email Mike Wild, ATC ([email protected]) for any athletic-training related questions.

Parking at the Stadium Complex is somewhat limited; with the exception of ADA parking no vehicles should park inside the Stadium complex.

In the event of a severe weather incident – such as thunderstorms – please take shelter in your vehicle or the Park Center (PER) building, approximately 400 meters east of the Stadium Complex. The concourse area of the Stadium Complex is not an acceptable shelter in the event of severe weather.

Lusk Field House, our indoor facility, is available for the vertical jumps (including during the combined-events) in case of inclement weather.

For the track events we will not move ahead of schedule by more than 5 minutes unless dealing with unreasonably cold and wet conditions. We aim to allow athletes to plan their warm-ups. Fastest-seeded heats will compete first. Athletes should check in for their events no less than 20 minutes prior to the start of their event. Based on the predicted forecast, we do not anticipate setting up a wind-reverse for the 100/HH.

For the horiztonal jumps the lowest-seeded heats will compete first. In the horizontal jumps and the throws, the top 8 will qualify for finals. For the horizontal jumps, we ask that the next ‘event’ is ready to go on the opposing runway immediately following the conclusion of the prior event (e.g., that the men’s TJ is ready to go on the East runway as soon as the women’s TJ finishes on the West runway). Field event athletes should clerk in at the event venue.

Implement certification will begin at 12:45PM at the shed near the throwing venue on Friday, and at 8:30AM on Saturday. In all throwing events, we will have an 'invitational' section first comprised of the highest seeds, with a 15 minute/2 throws per person warm-up (whichever is less), with 8 advancing immediately to a final - no warmups allowed for the final. The remaining 'open' sections will have 1 throw each for warmups or 10 minutes, whichever comes first, and are not eligible for finals. For the , we had to slightly restrict entrants and enforce a minimum distance of 35 meters, although the first legal throw will be measured for all competitors.

Following the completion of the men’s HJ, the women’s HJ will begin no more than 45 minutes later. Following the completion of the women’s PV, the men’s PV will begin no more than 60 minutes later.

Hospitality will be available for coaches during the meet in the press box area. Please, no student-athletes in the press box.

Once again this year we will be joined by local Special Olympians, and will have a participatory, mixed gender 4 x 100 with these athletes. We hope that your team will consider joining us!
