Away in a manger...the true story of Christmas! This beautiful story comes to life in this sweet . We will be holding monthly classes throughout the year so that you can complete this quilt. Skill Builder: Binding & Blocking Things A nicely done binding is the perfect finish to any quilt project, but the binding process can be intimidating if you don’t know the basics. Join Susie and learn some pointers that will help you bind your with nice straight edges and perfectly mitered corners. Intro to Quilting: Quilt Are you new to quilting? Maybe you're not so new, but feel you somehow missed the "basics" when you started out? Reverse Applique Cork Pouch Come play with cork and make an adorable reverse applique pouch. This pouch de- signed by Sallie Tomato is made specifically for working with cork which makes it a great way to get your feet wet if you have never sewn with cork. Rotary Cutting About 40 years ago rotary cutting revolutionized the quilt world. But do you use your rotary cutting skills to their best advantage? Learn about the equipment (mats, cutters, rulers) and techniques (fabric preparation, hand position, ruler usage, etc.) that will make your cutting more accurate. Balancing Act Do you, by chance, have any fat quarters or other small cuts of fabric that you just don’t know what to do with? Here’s your chance to make a fun, easy, and super scrappy crea- tion. Beaded Lace It is hard to believe that this quilt is only made from two units stitched over and over and placed appropriately. Want it bigger?? Just increase the size of each unit. Even though the quilt looks like it is made on point, it is actually built in horizontal sections. Learn to use a specialty ruler as well as how to square up to exact sizes. The background is cut from yard- age but you can use fat quarters, scraps and/or yardage for the colors to create the perfect quilt for you. Great Scrap Sew-In Rumor has it that a few of you have a stash of scraps, odds and ends that are just too good or too pretty or too big to toss. Here’s your chance to put them in use in a super easy and fun project and we will do the cutting! Choose one of the four shapes offered and then bring us your scraps ahead of time (see the supply list for guidelines) and we will cut them into precise 2 ½ or 5 inch squares, half square triangles, or tumblers using our AccuCut machine. In the Shadows This quick and simple project is an opportunity to put some of Susie’s ‘Things’ to practical use and make supervised design decisions while you’re at it. Jagged X’s One positive thing about staying home for months was the chance to scan the internet for quilt ideas. This fun scrappy quilt is just one of those ideas that can be made from strips, layer cakes, or whatever pieces of fabric that just make you happy. Jelly Roll Rug Rectangle Here’s a fun version of the so-popular Jelly Roll Rug, even easier and faster than the original oval version! If you’ve been a little apprehensive about making the oval, or if you’ve made the oval and are looking for something new, you’ll love the rectangular Jelly Roll Rug. This one is faster than the other because you don’t have to sew all the strips together – it sews up lickety split! All you need is one jelly roll or other 40-strip set and batting strips and you’re ready to go. Bonus: once you know this technique, it’s fun to make placemats, too – we’ll give you a handout with directions for those in class. Let’s Make A Scene In this ‘quick’ class you will learn how to use Susie’s favorite (fast and easy) freezer paper reverse appliqué method to frame a fused silhouette against a pretty sky, or you could choose to frame out a favorite fabric or perhaps one of your small embroidered pieces. You can use the block in combination with others or finish it as a stand-alone piece. Lust Have Quarter Log Cabin blocks created out of carefully arranged strips of color and background make for this great design that looks way more complicated than it is. Maze Craze Don’t you just love what happens when nice straight sections of beautiful fabrics come together to form amazing graphics and design! Grab a box and come showcase them in this simple setting. Let neutral window sills be the con- necting factor for your fabric assortment. This could be the perfect excuse to finally do that ‘holiday’ quilt, or perhaps you would rather use some of the great specialty fabrics that are available to us these days. With only 15 blocks to make, this quilt even qualifies as a ‘quickie’. You will become a master of the mitered corner, get some tips about making really straight ‘skinny’ sashing strips, and learn some things about balance in design while you’re at it. Two Fabric Bargello The beauty of this particular Bargello design is that the fabric does all the visual work for you. The fact that it is made from just two fabrics makes it unique (at least in the world of bargello). Select your favorite blended stripe fabric, add a coordinating fabric and come have some fun putting together this delightful quilt. Susie will guide you through the ‘lightning bolt’ design.
