Throughout his first decade at the helm of the Baylor tennis pro- gram, head coach Matt Knoll has produced phenomenal results. On the national level, Baylor had its best finish in 2004. In 2004, Baylor brought home the NCAA team title and Becker won the NCAA singles crown. Baylor has finished the season ranked in the top 10 seven times; No. 1 in 2004, second in 2005, fourth in 2003 and 2006, seventh in 2000 and 2002, and 10th in 1999. The Bears have made nine straight NCAA Tournament appearances and have reached the round of 16 six of the past eight seasons, including the champi- onship match in 2004 and 2005. Under Knoll’s guidance, the Bears have produced two NCAA singles champions (Becker and Dorsch), two ITA Players of the Year (Dorsch, twice) and eight play- ers have earned All-American status (18 times). Olympian at Kansas. He worked in a number of capacities at Kansas, includ- ing a stint as the director of the 1996 Big Eight Conference Tournament. Knoll was also the director of the Lawrence Tennis Association (LTA), a community tennis association that organized junior and adult-level leagues and tourna- ments along with junior tennis leagues. Before coaching at Kansas, Knoll enjoyed a one-year campaign as the head men’s tennis coach at Northern Iowa. He helped rebuild a program that was virtu- ally non-competitive before his arrival. Prior to accepting the job at Northern Iowa, Knoll served as a teaching profes- sional at the Overland Park (Kan.) Racquet Club for four years. Knoll’s first coaching experience came at the University of South Alabama, where he spent one year as the assistant men’s and women’s coach. 8 2006 2007 NCAA Appearances - 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006; 2004 NCAA Champions KylKyle SPENCERSPENCER Kyle Spencer, a former USC tennis All-American, joined the Baylor men's tennis program as Assistant Director of Tennis in Nov. 2006. Spencer replaced Sam Winterbotham, who was named head men's ten- nis coach at the University of Tennessee.

Spencer, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, brings a wealth of experi- ence to the Bear tennis program having played at the collegiate, Olympic and professional levels and coaching in the collegiate and pro- fessional ranks.

As a young player in southern California, Spencer was ranked No. 1 in the USA in doubles for Boys 18's. He went on to enjoy a four-year career at USC from 1995-98. While at USC he earned All-Pac-10 first- team honors and also earned All-American status in doubles in 1997. In THE FILE ON ... addition, he and his partner advanced to the finals of the NCAA Doubles Tournament. KYLE SPENCER Spencer, a Pac-10 All-Academic selection, graduated from USC in 1999 with a degree in international relations. PERSONAL Born: Jan. 26, 1976 (Glasgow, Scotland) Hometown: Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. Spencer and his doubles partner Barry Cowan, representing Great High School: Peninsula (Calif.) HS Britain, teamed up in doubles in the 2000 Sydney Olympics where they S College: USC, B.A. - International lost to Russia's Kafelnikov/Safin. In addition, Spencer has played in Relations (1999) Wimbledon and the U.S. Open several times. T TENNIS PLAYING CAREER 1995-1998- USC Spencer is familiar with the Baylor tennis program. He served as an A - ITA Doubles All-American (1997) assistant coach at USC during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, helping - Finished 1997 as the #1 ranked doubles coach the Trojans to an NCAA semifinal finish in 2004 where they were F player in NCAA Division I eliminated by Baylor. - 1997 NCAA Doubles Championship finalist F - 1998 Rolex Region 8 Singles Champion - Pac-10 All-Academic Team (1995) He has spent the past two years coaching on the ATP tour. Among his students were , who ranked among the top 75 in sin- 1998-2002 - Professional - Sydney Olympics, U.S. Open, Wimbledon gles and top 100 pro Cecil Mamiit. He also coached ATP doubles player - Finalist ATP Tour Event in Newport, R.I. Ashley Fisher to a ranking of 24, Fisher and his partner - 12 career pro titles advanced to the semi-finals of the U.S. Open. COACHING CAREER 2003-05 USC - Assistant Coach REINER 2005-06 ATP Tour Coach NEUROHR VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT 2006- Baylor Assistant Coach/ Asst. Director of Tennis Operations Reiner Neurohr, a four-year letterwinner and ITA All- American returns to the Baylor tennis program to serve as a volunteer coach while pursuing his MBA at Baylor. The Worms, Germany, native played at Baylor from 2001-2004 and was a key performer on the Bears’ 2004 NCAA championship squad. In 2003 he teamed with Benedikt Dorsch to earn All-American doubles honors, that season Neurohr posted a 29-5 doubles record. The Big 12’s 2001 Big 12 Freshman of the Year was named All-Big 12 in doubles three times and was also an Academic All-Big 12 honoree. Neurohr currently ranks No. 2 on BU’s career doubles wins chart with 99 and he and Dorsch hold the record for most team doubles wins in a season with 26 (2002-03).
