KILLING BONO A Nick Hamm Film Production Notes Due for Release in UK: 1st April 2011 Running Time: 114 mins Killing Bono | Production Notes Press Quotes: Short Synopsis: KILLING BONO is a rock n’ roll comedy about two Irish brothers struggling to forge their path through the 1980’s music scene… whilst the meteoric rise to fame of their old school pals U2 only serves to cast them deeper into the shadows. Long Synopsis: Neil McCormick (Ben Barnes) always knew he’d be famous. A young Irish songwriter and budding genius, nothing less than a life of rock n’ roll stardom will do. But there’s only room for one singer in school band The Hype and his friend Paul’s already bagged the job. So Neil forms his own band with his brother Ivan (Robert Sheehan), determined to leave The Hype in his wake. There’s only one problem: The Hype have changed their name. To ‘U2’. And Paul (Martin McCann) has turned into ‘Bono’. Naturally there’s only one option for Neil: become bigger than U2. The brothers head to London in their quest for fame, but they are blighted by the injustices of the music industry, and their every action is dwarfed by the soaring success of their old school rivals. Then, just as they land some success of their own, Ivan discovers the shocking truth behind Neil’s rivalry with U2, and it threatens to destroy everything. As his rock n’ roll dream crashes and burns, Neil feels like his failure is directly linked to Bono’s success.

  • 1 Femininity, Ageing and Performativity in the Work of Amy
1 Femininity, Ageing and Performativity in the Work of Amy Heckerling Frances Smith, University College London Abstract: This article concerns the complex negotiation of ageing and femininity in Amy Heckerling’s two most recent films: I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007) and Vamps (2012). These films are positioned as part of the contemporary postfeminist media culture, (Gill, 2007) noting the scrutiny received by the ageing female body, and its changing status under the prevailing cultural norms of femininity. However, Heckerling’s films also demonstrate a sense of play with these gender norms, and so calls to be read also in terms of Judith Butler’s theorisation of performativity (1990; 1993; 2004). This article contends that Heckerling’s representation of liminality and indeterminacy—in her teen movies, and later work alike—provides a way for women to carve out an autonomous identity that humorously demonstrates the absurdity of mediatised constructions of femininity. Her work, then, is more complex than has hitherto been acknowledged, and the piece concludes by calling for the director and screenwriter to be repositioned as a significant female voice in 21st century screen media. A pivotal scene occurs towards the middle of Amy Heckerling’s I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007) when television producer Rosie (Michelle Pfeiffer) enters the reception area of a TV studio where two other producers are discussing casting. As one (Peter Polycarpou) proposes a series of accomplished female actors, the other (Mackenzie Crook) dismisses them variously as “hags”, or, in the case of actor Emma Thompson, “Brit hag”. Even those women who have taken steps to stall the ageing process do not escape this scrutiny.

  • Original Party Girls by Christina Harlin, Your Fearless Young Orphan Vamps (2012) Directed by Amy Heckerling
Original Party Girls By Christina Harlin, your Fearless Young Orphan Vamps (2012) Directed by Amy Heckerling Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter star in this extremely girly chick-flick about a pair of benevolent vampires living the party life in New York until one of them falls in love with a Van Helsing descendant, leading to trouble for the entire vampire subculture. I had quite low expectations for the film; it looked seriously stupid, like an episode of Sex and the City with the smut removed and the jokes all vampire-slated. And to be honest, some of it really is seriously stupid, but more often than not, it’s a rather warm-hearted story about friendship, and what it lacks in real comedy it makes up in sweetness. So is it a compliment to say that a movie is “not nearly as bad as I thought it would be”? Silverstone is Goody, a woman who was turned in the late 19th Century for reasons that will be divulged later in the film – believe it or not, I’m not going to spoil because there is, in fact, the possibility of spoiling. Goody lived a long and lonely life and was about ready to give it all up when Stacy (Ritter) is turned in the late 1980s and they become friends. Now, twenty years later, they are roommates, making the best of their daylight-limited lifestyle. The pair of them never take human lives, living on rat’s blood. Stacy does her best to help Goody adjust to the modern hassles of computers, texting, and smart phones.

  • Query Approximation in the Case of Incompletely Aligned Datasets
Query approximation in the case of incompletely aligned datasets Ana I. Torre, Jesus Bermudez, and Arantza Illarramendi Tecnalia Research & Innovation University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU {isabel.torre}@tecnalia.com {jesus.bermudez,a.illarramendi}@ehu.es Abstract. Clouds of Linked Open Data about the same domain pro- mote the formulation of a query over a source dataset and then try to process the same query over different target datasets, one after another, in order to obtain a broader set of answers. However, heterogeneity of vocabularies used in the datasets and the scarce number of alignments among those datasets makes that querying task extremely difficult. This paper presents a proposal that allows on demand transformations of queries by using a set of transformation rules that are able to rewrite a query formulated over a source dataset into another query adequate for a target dataset, which approximates the original one. The approach relieves users from knowing the vocabulary used in the targeted datasets and even more it considers situations where alignments do not exist or they are not suitable for the formulated query. Therefore, in order to favor the possibility of getting answers, sometimes there is no guaran- tee of obtaining a semantically equivalent translation. Experiments with benchmark queries validate the feasibility of the proposal. 1 Introduction So called Web of Data can be considered one of the major global reposito- ries in which the number of available linked datasets is continuously increasing, mainly promoted by initiatives such as Linked Open Data, Open Government and Linked Life Data. As a result a growing number of Linked Open Data sources (from diverse provenance and about different domains) are made available which can be freely browsed and searched to find and extract useful information.

  • REFUGE a Film by JESSICA GOLDBERG
Strand Releasing presents REFUGE A film by JESSICA GOLDBERG Starring Krysten Ritter, Brian Geraghty, Logan Huffman, Madeleine Martin PRELIMINARY PRESS NOTES Official Selection: Hamptons International Film Festival 2012 Country of Origin: United States Format: DCP/1.85/Color Sound Format: 5.1 Surround Sound Running Time: 84 minutes Genre: Drama Not Rated National Press Contact: Jenna Martin / Marcus Hu Strand Releasing Phone: 310.836.7500 [email protected] [email protected] Please download photos from our website: http://extranet.strandreleasing.com/secure/login.aspx?username=PRESS&password=STRAND SYNOPSIS This heartwarming romance finds Amy (Krysten Ritter of VERONICA MARS and BREAKING BAD) as a young woman raising her two, slightly younger, but overly needy siblings. Amy has to balance her personal life with her responsibilities. But when Sam (Brian Geraghty of BOARDWALK EMPIRE and TRUE BLOOD), a young handsome stranger rolls into town, he becomes entrenched in the family while he and Amy, against all odds, begin to create a life they never thought possible. DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT Refuge is based on the stage play I wrote as a young student at Juilliard. The play, like the movie, is an odd little love story about two people who want different very things in the world but come together anyway. It’s also a story about family. The family we’re stuck with, the family that makes us who we are, and the new families we make as we go forth in the world. It’s about the delicate struggle between our responsibility to our siblings, lovers, husbands and wives, and our personal hopes and desires.
