Task Based Controls – JHA & PTW Workshop

OVERVIEW

This course is for all workers who carry out various tasks such as maintenance, repairs, modifications and other job functions in . It covers the essentials of assessing / risks of the job and implementing control measures to protect workers.

Job Analysis (JHA) is an effective tool that enables workers to identify, assess and control hazards. When properly applied, it helps to develop the safety of the and reduces workplace accidents.

Permit to Work (PTW) System is designed to implement the controls that were developed from risk assessments to provide a safe workplace to protect people, property, processes and the environment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of this Two (2) day workshop, participants should be able to: ✓ Introduce Job & establish its role in today’s industry ✓ Introduce some basic skills in the recognition & control of occupational hazards ✓ Provide basic hazard recognition skills for Supervisors ✓ Introduce Job Hazard Analysis Techniques ✓ Define Job Hazard Analysis steps ✓ Identify the purpose of the Permit to Work System ✓ Understand the use of an Accident Prevention Programme ✓ Duties of employers and employees ✓ Discuss the requirements of Lock Out / Tag Out ✓ Discuss the requirements of Hot Work ✓ Discuss the requirements of Confined Space ✓ Discuss the requirements of Excavation ✓ Identify conditions that automatically cancel any safe work permit ✓ Identify the requirements of the Permit to Work System

FACILITATOR’S BACKGROUND

Mr. Alfred Phillips, Managing Director, SET, Ready & Go Ltd / SHEQ Institute Ltd.

With over 36 years of industrial experience (construction and petrochemicals), Mr. Phillips has established himself as a leader in the field. He has worked with several leading companies in positions such as Plant Operator, Maintenance Technician, Mechanical/Maintenance Engineer, Project Engineer, Senior Engineer, Manager - Safety & Security and Safety (HSE) Consultant.

Over the past thirteen (15) years, Mr. Phillips has been the Managing Director of SET, Ready and Go Limited which provides consultancy, training and contracting services in HSEQ. He is also the Managing Director of SHEQ Institute Limited which is tertiary education institute. He has developed certificate, diploma and degree programmes in Safety. The Diploma in Health & Safety and the Degree (BSc.) in Safety has been approved by the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT). Mr. Phillips also lectures in the Diploma and Degree programmes.
