: “flaws and all”

Genesis 25:19-34 & 27

Pastor Kahler February 17, 2019

Would someone who heard the sermon be willing to share what stood out to them? What was the bigidea?

Can you recall the flaws of each of the four people involved in the story?

A License to Sin or Stuck in Slavery

- There is a great deal of benefit to think about the relationship between God's Plans and Our Flaws. Have you ever thought that God's plans might not come because of your flaws, sins, mess-ups? Have you ever thought, "What does it matter how good I am, God's purposes will always come about?"

- Paul wrote about this unique relationship in Romans.

See Paul celebrate the grace of God in saving us! :20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Christ our Lord.

See Paul cautioning a cheap view of the grace of God as a license to sin in the very next verses! Romans 6:1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

- Which would you say you are deficient in more: celebrating grace or seeing grace as cheap? For those who struggle to celebrate grace they can be stuck, feeling as though their sin rules them and they can never be free! For those who struggle to view grace rightly they can think very little of their win, feeling as though it really isn't that big of a deal.

- Which of these do you think you see more of in others? How would you describe the relationship between God's grace in our life with our right actions?

- Pray that God will work in you personally and give you opportunities to share with others truth from His Word.
