The Yummy Fur ( Photo: Phil Smith) Jul 29, 2020 17:34 BST THE YUMMY FUR: 90s Scottish cult-indie rock royals and their much championed heraldry PRESS ACCESS ORDER "PIGGY WINGS" YUMMY FUR DISCOGS Hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, The Yummy Fur were a wild and weird mix of angular riffs, super-short songs and savage vitriol / sardonic social commentary. Singer/guitarist, John McKeown, fronted the band from their 1992 inception (scores of cartoon melodies under a minute long delivered at high velocity) until their demise in 1999 (after morphing into a more muscular beast armed with eerie Eno-esque synths and longer, more hypnotic grooves.) Watch video on YouTube here Along the way they recorded three albums:Night Club(1996),Male Shadow at Three O'Clock (1998) and Sexy World (1999). Firm favorites of John Peel, they recorded two sessions for the much-revered DJ and regularly featured on his show. Known for their disconcertingly direct approach to lyrics and performance, the band can seem like quite a ferocious proposition if it wasn't for their friendly onstage demeanour and good humour. On the few occasions when they've performed in recent years the live show seems bizarrely to have only increased in intensity. After splitting in 1999, McKeown went on to sign to Rough Trade with his band 1990s whilst drummer Paul Thomson and floating member Alex Kapranos formed Franz Ferdinand. Now, with the imminent re-release ofPiggy Wings (Rock Action), a compilation of the best 7" and album tracks including cult hit, Policeman, the band have reformed to play with a line up featuring original members McKeown on vocals, Paul Thomson (Franz Ferdinand) on drums, lead guitarist Brian McDougall plus the addition of bassist Dino Bardot (1990s / Franz Ferdinand). (A) Bohlander Prelims 1/12/08 16:28 Page i PRINCIPLES OF GERMAN CRIMINAL LAW German criminal law doctrine, as one of the more influential doctrines over time and on a global scale, takes rather different approaches to many of the problems of substantive law from those of the common law family of countries like the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, etc. It also differs markedly from the system which is most often used in Anglophone writing as a civil law comparison, the French law. German criminal law is a code-based model and has been for centuries. The influence of academic writing on its development has been far greater than in the judge-oriented common law models. This book will serve as a useful aid to debates about codification efforts in countries that are mostly based on a case law system, but which wish to re-structure their law in one or several criminal codes. The comparison will show that similar problems occur in all legal systems regardless of their provenance, and the attempts of individual systems at solving them, their successes and their failures, can provide a rich experience on which other countries can draw and on which they can build. This book provides an outline of the principles of German criminal law, mainly the so-called ‘General Part’ (eg actus reus, mens rea, defences, participation) and the core offence categories (homicide, offences against property, sexual offences). It sets out the principles, their development under the influence of academic writing and judicial decisions. The book is not meant as a textbook of German criminal law, but is a selection of interrelated in-depth essays on the central problems.

Interrogating the idea that punk was a non-sectarian subculture, it argues that the accounts of my interviewees suggest a more nuanced relationship between the punk scene and Northern Irish society. Through detailed analysis of four interviews, it describes the punk scene as a structure of feeling that allowed Protestant and Catholic teenagers and young people to intervene in the sectarianised space of Belfast in new ways, without transcending the influence of sectarianism entirely. It also suggests that considering the ways in which people remember the punk scene, via the interpretative oral history methodology first developed by Alessandro Portelli and Luisa Passerini, offers an insight into how memories of everyday life are shaped by Northern Irish memory cultures as well as by lived experiences of punk and of the Troubles.
