In the players, coaches, administrators. The teams participating against the Toyota Free State can be seen as a province Cheetahs and Kings in this that offers opportunities for players on competition, a total of 124 players all levels to rise to the highest level. represent their national sides from Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Italy. Over time, Free State Rugby have delivered 85 Springboks and an It was ‘n new start for the Toyota amount of top players who are Cheetahs in Guinness PRO14, but all currently playing overseas and at the challenges made the side grow other unions in South Africa – Free stronger and it is believed that the State Rugby is indeed the rugby Toyota Cheetahs will only benefit from factory for South African rugby. playing in the northern hemisphere. The new approach at Free State The next couple of Guinness PRO14 Rugby is to create opportunities for matches against Connacht, Dragons, players and there is no better place Cardiff Blues and Munster are very than right here. The two Vasity Cup important for the Toyota Cheetahs to teams, the Shimlas (UFS) and the Ixias secure their spot in the play-offs – (CUT), plus their two Young Guns exciting prospects for the team in their team, offers junior players a platform first year of the competition. from where they can develop to a higher level. Besides this, there is the Toyota Cheetah Academy where a group of young players are being prepared for bigger rugby. The newly introduced Free State Cheetah u.19 league, promises to be a very successful tournament with lots of potential for Ryno Opperman top players to make a break through. Chairman Guinness PRO14 is a top After this weekend there will be just four rounds left in the regular season and it’s exciting to see so many clubs kick into form as the final furlongs of the Guinness PRO14 approach. With games taking place across all five competing nations this weekend there is plenty to hope for no matter who you support and right across the board there are plenty of terrific clashes on oer. Scottish rugby is on a real high at the moment and my congratulations to Gregor Townsend and the national team for a truly magnificent win over England in the Six Nations. Many of those who starred for Scotland have done so for Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh in the Guinness PRO14 this season and both clubs have been in great form. Edinburgh host Munster having won six of their last seven, while their win over Dragons was their 11th of the season. To put it in perspective, 11 wins ties their most-ever in the Championship and they still have five more games to go. Richard Cockerill has done a super job at the club and right now they’re on course to reach the Guinness PRO14 Final Series – a feat that would prove historic. Elsewhere, a quick look at the meeting of in-form Cardi Blues and Benetton catches the eye, as does the Toyota Cheetahs’ return to Bloemfontein to face Connacht while Ulster and Glasgow Warriors always produce a fiery encounter. Zebre host Ospreys knowing one more win will see them set a record for most wins in a season but the visitors are on a roll now and have a chance of Champions Cup qualification so it promises to be a really competitive aair in Parma. Dragons make their first visit to South Africa as they face the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth and coach Deon Davids will be pleased to have the hosts back in the hot conditions that better suits their rugby. To cap it all o we have Scarlets taking on Leinster in Llanelli with lots of attacking talent on oer and with just three points between them at the top of Conference B it promises to be a hard-fought contest. So many teams have their eye on reaching the Guinness PRO14 Final in Dublin on May 26 and last week we came up with yet another great reason for you to book your place for a fantastic weekend of rugby. The Ocial Guinness PRO14 Final Fanzone will combine with the Dublin 7s to produce a two-day ‘Festival of Rugby’. In addition to the live rugby where you can compete in either Sevens or Tag rugby, there’s plenty on oer for those you just want to soak up the atmosphere ahead of the Final with live music, bars, premium areas, player appearances and more all on oer. See www.pro14rugby.org for more. The Final takes place in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium so get along to www.ticketmaster.ie now and get your pick of the best seats before it’s too late. Prices start at €10 for children and €35 for adults. Of course, the Final is no longer an occasion for fans of the two teams playing, it’s an incredible experience for rugby supporters from all over the world. No matter where you’re coming from you can rely on Gullivers Sports Travel to arrange tickets, hotels and flights as our Ocial Supporter Travel Partner for the Guinness PRO14 Final Series – see www.gulliverstravel.co.uk.
