The Game Changing Twelth Player
Game Changing Fans The 12th Player in every Premier League team in partnership with YouGov 2 | The Game Changing 12th Player Foreword Barclays have been lucky enough to be involved with football for over a hundred years through banking relationships with the FA, many of the clubs, and a long history of partnership with the Premier League – which today sees us as their Official Banking Partner. This longevity has given us the chance to see football from the commercial prospective but also in more recent years from the angle of the fans. The Premier League has captured the imagination of people around the world, those who might initially view football with interest but then, like many, become enamoured with a favourite player, then a team, until the trials and tribulations of being an avid follower dominates their weekends, and they become lifelong fans. Through our partnership with the Premier League we have always tried to celebrate those who support the game. This season we have delved deeper and launched our ‘Game Changing’ campaign that looks to celebrate and recognise those that really do make a difference; players, managers, volunteers and of course fans. This research, commissioned by Barclays and undertaken by YouGov, involves interviews with 4,039 fans from all the Premier League clubs, together with interviews with past Premier League players, broadcasters, academics and fan groups. The aim was to find out what difference fans make to teams; particularly at games but also supporting remotely or through the media (social and traditional). We have asked the question ‘Is there such a thing as the 12th player’ and we think we have gone some way to answering it. -

For up-to-the-minute updates from the BT Sport Relief Challenge: Hell on High Seas including images and video content follow Twitter and BBC Live Fearsome winds puts the Hell on High Seas yacht at a 45-degree angle Yesterday was a tough day for the six celebrities on the BT Sport Relief Challenge: Hell on High Seas, as they passed the Isle of Man sailing south at a speed of 7 knots after leaving Belfast on Monday. The yacht was on its keel at a 45-degree angle, so even the simple task of walking around was made tough, not to mention having to steer the boat through the elements. As the weather closed in on them, they experienced winds of 20 knots, the air temperature was 6 degrees and the sea temperature only 9 degrees - so they really felt the icy cold water as it splashed against their bare faces. The One Show’s Alex Jones, TV presenter Angellica Bell, Comedian Hal Cruttenden, Actress Doon Mackichan, and TV presenters Ore Oduba and Suzi Perry will battle fearsome winds, freezing temperatures and rough seas in a feat of pure physical, mental and emotional endurance. The challenge is sponsored by BT, a long-term supporter of Sport Relief challenges since 2009. Today (Tuesday 8th March) will see more wind, meaning more keel on the boat as the bad weather passes them and heads to the west. Ian Walker, the Volvo Ocean Race skipper, said: “Today the celebrity crew need to be very careful when working on the yacht due to the angle of the boat, as we are racing against the elements to get around Land’s End.” The celebrity crew are paired up into a buddy system so they are able to carry out their daily tasks in four hour shifts, which include manually hoisting the huge sails, steering the boat and much more. -

I have selected about half of them, which are more detailed in terms of explanation for publication below. Please note that the comments below have been made by readers’ across the United Kingdom, and are not the views of The F1 Broadcasting Blog. Note also that some comments may have been shortened and/or redacted in places. Comment 1 I find Sky Sports F1 to be brilliant. They do every single session live and have the most brilliant com- mentators and presenters/pundits, I met ‘Crofty’ at Silverstone in 2009 and he is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I would never leave Sky now, Sky 100% for me. They really care about For- mula 1 and I have it on most of the time when I have my TV on at home, I don't like the BBC now. Since they stopped showing every race live I have lost a lot of respect for them and Suzi thinks too much about herself, David Coulthard and Eddie Jordan I find to be very annoying and don’t take the job seriously enough, just answer the question Eddie. Don't like Ben Edwards either, not enough passion I feel. Comment 5 I have watched F1 on Sky on the rare occasions it has been broadcast on Sky One but I prefer the BBC’s offering. This maybe because I am more familiar with it. -
