PAUL, Minn. - Northeastern junior forward Adam Gaudette (Braintree, Mass.) has been awarded the 2018 Hobey Baker Memorial Award given annually to the best player in NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey it was announced tonight East Player of the Year. The award was presented in conjunction with the 2018 Frozen Four in St. Paul. Gaudette was also named to the CCM/AHCA All-American First Team. Gaudette becomes the 10th player in Hockey East history to collect college hockey’s highest individual award, and the first since Boston College’sJohnny Gaudreau and Boston University’s Jack Eichel were so honored in consecutive seasons in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Criteria for the award includes displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements. Gaudette tops off a historic 2017-18 season that saw him become just the third Northeastern player to be named the Hockey East Player of the Year and the second Husky skater to earn the honor after Zach Aston-Reese was tabbed as the league’s best player last season. The Braintree, Massachusetts native lead the NCAA in goals (30), points (60), points per game (1.58) and power-play points (27) in just 38 games played.

Northeastern (21-13-5) will play fourth-seeded UMass Lowell in Saturday’s title game at 7 p.m. at TD Garden (TV: NESN, NBS Sports Network). The River Hawks outlasted Providence, 2-1, in triple overtime in Friday’s first semifinal. Saturday’s champion will earn Hockey East’s automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Men’s Hockey Championship. The red-hot Huskies extended the nation’s longest current winning streak to a program-record 12 games and head to the title game with a 19-1-2 mark in its last 22 games. Northeastern snapped a seven-game semifinal losing streak with the victory and will make its first title game appearance in 28 years, when it won its lone championship in 1988. Northeastern had a 2-1 edge after one period allowing an early goal and taking the lead in the final second. It is his second consecutive national player of the month honor. The 6-1, 184-pound forward finished the month as the Division I points leader for the second straight month, with 17 points in just eight games in February for an NCAA-best 2.12 points per game. Gaudette had 10 goals and seven assists while helping the Huskies to a 6-1-1 record and its first Beanpot cham- pionship since 1988. Gaudette also became Hockey East’s 2017-18 scoring champion, racking up 20 goals and 15 assists for 35 points in league play. He recorded multi-point nights in seven of the eight games he played, including four three-point efforts and a hat trick in the Beanpot title game. The Vancouver Canucks draftee recorded at least a point in all but one game in which he appeared and finished the month on a seven-game goal streak. He led all Hockey East players in goals (10), points (17), goals per game (1.25), points per game (2.12), and hat tricks (1).

Fox leads the Crimson in scoring with nine goals and 39 assists for 48 points in 32 games. A deft playmaker, puck carrier, and on-ice leader, he also topped all scorers in ECAC Hockey this year with 33 points in 22 games. Harvard finished fourth in the conference and will face the University of Massachusetts in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round on Saturday, March 30 in Manchester, NH. The other finalists for the 2019 Walter Brown Award were UMass senior forward Jacob Pritchard, (Macomb, MI) and Quinnipiac junior goalie Andrew Shortridge, (Anchorage, AK). Pritchard was Hockey East’s second-leading scorer with 16 goals and 29 assists overall. Shortridge was the top-rated goaltender in the country, with a 94.1 save percentage and 1.51 goals-against average. Fox played for the Long Island Gulls and the United States National Development Program before matriculating at Harvard. He twice represented the United States in World Junior Tournament play.
