Introduction

Business productivity means equipping with the right tools to communicate, collaborate, and get their job done. The Android for Work program offers customers easy access to a full suite of free applications that allow users to get work done from wherever they are. These applications support email, contacts, calendar, tasks, document viewing, editing, and secure browsing.

Productivity Apps

Android for Work productivity apps are available in the Work Profile on devices or in the Android for Work App managed workspace on pre-Lollipop 4.0+ devices. They are designed ​ ​ ® specifically for Microsoft ​ Exchange , Office 365 and IBM Notes customers, connecting them to their ​ ™ ™ ™ existing infrastructure. You can deploy all or some of the apps for business use. Like all work apps enabled through Android for Work, the productivity apps are badged to signal their use for work.

Android for Work productivity apps must be configured and deployed through an Android for Work ​ management partner solution. Select a management solution before deploying the Work Profile or ​ installing the Android for Work App.

Productivity Apps Management

Android for Work productivity applications are “work-aware” by design, and have a number of management capabilities, including support for IT administrators to set application restrictions and device administrator policies within Android for Work-enabled Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) consoles. Some management settings differ between the native Android for Work solution and the Android for Work App.

Some common work settings include:

Notifications ● Enable or disable detailed notifications ● Enable or disable weekend alerts ● Enable or disable VIP alerts after hours

Server settings ● Domain or username, password, server, use secure connection (SSL), accept all SSL certificates, client certificate, device ID ● Sync ○ Enable or disable Wi-Fi only sync and sync while roaming ○ Force resync enterprise data ○ Set sync frequency (never, automatic push, every 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes, every hour) ○ Select apps to sync (emails, contacts, tasks, events)

Divide Productivity

Android for Work customers install Divide Productivity to use best-in-class apps for mail, calendar, ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ contacts, and tasks. Divide Productivity, which must be enabled through a partner EMM solution, ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ integrates with existing IT environments like Exchange, Office 365, and IBM Notes.

Mail

Mail delivers an enterprise-grade mail client, designed specifically for Exchange and IBM Notes users. With Mail, you can:

® ● Utilize 2-way synchronization of ActiveSync ​ mail. Set amount to synchronize (1 day, 3 days, 1 ​ week, 2 weeks, 1 month) ● Sort mail by priority and flag for follow up. ● View threaded conversations.

● Smart forward and reply—The smart forward or reply command is used by clients to forward or reply messages without retrieving the full, original message from the server. Smart forward or reply is an ActiveSync feature enabled by default, which allows users to save bandwidth by downloading only the body of the email. ● Utilize enhanced mail security with Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) X.509 public key infrastructure to allow email messages to be cryptographically processed. (Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 support only) ○ Ensure emails haven’t been tampered with in transit with digital signatures. ○ Ensure only intended recipients can read mail with digital encryption. ○ Sign and encrypt email with attachments. ® ○ Import .pfx and .p12 files to the Java ​ KeyStore . ​ ™ ○ Pre-populate of root certificate authorities. ● Use HTML email filtering for insecure elements. The HTML filter is designed to filter out dangerous HTML elements like frame, iframe, script and video. When the filter is disabled, users can still view HTML emails; the only difference is that the forbidden elements listed above cannot be viewed. ● Set up email aliases and personalize email signature. ● Search mail by subject, sender, and body of the message. ● Filter email by VIP contacts, follow up, or unread messages. ● Swipe to delete email. ● Sync multiple folders and selected folders only. ● View email body preview. ● Pinch to zoom gesture support.

Calendar

Calendar offers a host of business features and the ability to view your personal and work appointments in the same interface. With Calendar you can: ● Utilize 2-way synchronization of the ActiveSync calendar. ● Create or edit meetings, including recurring ones. ● Accept or decline email invitations. ● Sort Fast Agenda, Day, Week, or Month views. ● Utilize one-touch conference dialing ● Look up attendees from contacts. ● Track meeting attendee details. ● Utilize free or busy lookup. ● Propose new meeting times. ● Overlay view a personal calendar (Android for Work App only). ● Customize responses to calendar events. ● Set event notifications for all, VIP only, or none.

Contacts

An easy-to-use interface to provide mobile workers access to create and organize VIP business contacts. With Contacts, you can: ● Automatically remove Work contacts from the personal side when the PIM Suite is reset. ● Perform 1-way push synchronization between Work Contacts and User contacts (IT policy, Android for Work App only). ● Secure contact field export—choose between all fields or name and number only. ● Share business contacts as a vCard (IT policy). ● Utilize 2-way synchronization of ActiveSync contacts. ● Flag contacts as VIPs to filter mail and set priority notifications. ● Choose sort and display order. ● If enabled via policy, sync Work Contacts (read-only) to personal profile.

Tasks

With full integration of your desktop and mobile task lists, Work Tasks lets you stay on top of your daily to-do list. With Tasks, you can: ● Utilize 2-way synchronization with Exchange 2007, 2010, 2013, and Office 365 and local support for IBM Notes. ● Swipe to delete tasks when complete. ● View and sort tasks by Name, Due Date, and Priority. ● Easily find tasks with title and note field search. ● Quickly identify high priority and recurring tasks. ● Stay current with your daily to do list with custom task notifications and reminders.

Note: 2-way synchronization with ActiveSync mail servers for Exchange 2007, 2010, 2013, and Office ​ 365 is fully supported. Tasks support is limited to local tasks for IBM Domino users. ™

Document viewing, editing, and browsing

Create, edit, and share documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, and save them locally for offline access. View PDFs securely and browse with confidence while working on a mobile device.

Work Docs

Create, edit, and share documents with colleagues from your Android phone or tablet. With Work Docs, you can:

● Create new documents or open and edit existing ones. ● Share documents in Word or PDF format. ● Get stuff done anytime—even without an Internet connection. ● Never worry about losing your work—everything is automatically saved as you type.

Work Sheets

Create, edit, and share spreadsheets with colleagues from your Android phone or tablet. With Work Sheets, you can: ● Create new spreadsheets or open and edit existing ones. ● Share documents in Excel or PDF format. ● Get stuff done anytime—even without an Internet connection. ● Format cells, enter data, insert or view charts, insert formulas, use find or replace, and more. ● Never worry about losing your work—everything is automatically saved as you type.

Work Slides

Create, edit, and share presentations with colleagues from your Android phone or tablet. With Work Slides, you can: ● Create new presentations or open and edit existing ones.

● Share documents in PowerPoint or PDF format. ● Get stuff done anytime—even without an Internet connection. ● Add and rearrange slides, insert images, format text and shapes, and more. ● Present right from your device via or AirPlay. ● Never worry about losing your work—everything is automatically saved as you type.

Work Chrome

Safely browse the web on your Android for Work phone and tablet with the browser. With Work Chrome, IT administrators can apply dozens of granular management policies, such as: ​ ​ ● Enable or disable editing of managed bookmarks. ● Set whitelist or blacklist URLs. ● Enable or disable safe browsing. ● Enable or disable incognito mode. ● Enable or disable DNS prefetching. ● Allow or disallow cookies for none, all, or individual sessions. ● Configure allowed app or extension types.
