Based in Youth Gateways premisies we work with all 16 and 17 year olds (including prison leavers & those who are pregnant or have children) requiring advice and support in relation to their ongoing accommodation, care and personal developmental needs. Llamau staff will identify & refer to the appropriate services required based on assessed need that includes the wishes & feelings of the young person ; working collaboratively and constructively with other partners in Basement @ 33. This could include referring vulnerable 16 & 17 year-olds to Children’s Services for a Child in Need Assessment under the Children’s Act, making a homeless application for those young people who meet the criteria and/or referrals to Youth Gateway for support accessing education, employment or training. TheBasement@33 also has a dedicated Family Mediation Worker (see entry for Llamau Family Mediation) based there to prevent homelessness by enabling young people to return home or remain at home with their family where it is safe and appropriate to do so. The service also considers referrals for young people aged 14+. Family Mediation is a free & confidential service that aims to prevent homelessness by working with those affected to identify the barriers preventing re-engagement with the family; it also helps the young person and the family to understand the wider implications of homelessness at such a young age. While it is not always possible to return home, Family Mediation can still greatly assist the young person’s future prospects by re-establishing a link with the family and helping to build or sustain vital family support networks. Offered Brief Description of the The Breakfast Run offers advice to, and maintains contact with, rough sleepers and other Scheme vulnerable people in the centre of Cardiff. Tea or coffee and a hot filled roll are available. Dog food is also distributed. The Run leaves the Wallich Nightshelter in time to arrive at the steps of the National Museum as close to 7.15am as possible. Thereafter it tours the city centre, taking a consistent and comprehensive route, contacting rough sleepers. After completing its sweep of the city centre, the Breakfast Run will drive to other locations in the city where there are known to be rough sleepers. The route is constantly reviewed to maximise the degree of contact. The Breakfast Run is supported midweek by Cardiff County Council's HANR Outreach Team and otherwise largely by volunteers. Whenever possible, those contacted are referred to the Wallich Clifford Nightshelter or other services.
