Welcome to the GFM The GFM are delighted to welcome your child to Bay House School and Sixth Form

The and Fareham Multi‐ Trust (GFM) is a group of local schools (Bay House School and Sixth Form, Brune , Gomer Junior School, Rowner Junior School and LWS Academy) that work together to champion the needs of Gosport and Fareham learners across all phases of education – Secondary, Primary and SEN. The GFM recognises the need to work in partnership with County Council and all local schools to build better outcomes and opportunities for the young people of Gosport and Fareham. It is through our collective endeavour that we can make a difference, with Gosport and Fareham learners’ achievement being greater and aspiring them further. The local commitment to this initiative is overwhelming – schools and communities see this as an opportunity for a group of schools to become greater than the sum of their parts.

The Virtual School

What is the Virtual School? To help us meet the needs of every learner at Bay House School, we have teams of colleagues within our ‘Virtual School’ who work together with pupils and with parents. If pupils require support they will be immersed in the ethos of inclusion and equality. The aim is to enable all pupils to access the curriculum. Support is available for literacy, numeracy, language as well as developing social and emotional skills and will vary according to individual pupil needs. Pupils may work individually or in a small group and for some lessons there may be additional adult support within the class.

Mrs Dale is the Virtual School Director of Operations and is normally the first point of contact for any concerns or enquires about the support for learning.

Mrs Smithbone is the SENCo for Bay House School

Top tips to supporting reading at home

Taking a small amount of time each day to read suitably challenging books makes a real difference to academic progress. At we aim to support pupils to become independent readers. Here’s how you can help:

Set aside a designated family reading time – at least 15‐30 minutes each day

Support your child with reading material – loan books from the library, buy books as gifts, source books from charity shops/car boot sales

Encourage your child to swap books with friends

Be a reading role model – share what you are reading and show an interest in what your child is reading. Instigate book discussions.

Look out for reading difficulties – if you spot your child having any difficulties with reading, please contact the school so support can be given

17

Foundations of Learning

The Foundations of Learning is a framework to enable us to help pupils reflect on their strengths and areas for development in four key areas:

Self‐Awareness is about helping our learners understand what motivates them, their strengths and weaknesses and the positive impact they can have on the world around them.

Independence & Resilience is about enabling learners to become confident and skilful enough to take control of their own learning, building on mistakes and persevering to achieve long‐term goals.

Thinking Skills is about exploring the way we process information, from the understanding of a new concept, to making links between new and existing knowledge and ultimately to 'creating' new knowledge and layers of understanding.

Collaboration & Relationships is about developing an understanding of others and how to shape our words and actions to build strong relationships and achieve successful outcomes when working with others.

Please visit our website for further information on Foundations of Learning
