Dear Friends,

There are only two basic emotions that we all experience, love and fear. All other emotions are variations of these two. Thoughts and behaviour come from either a place of love, or a place of fear. Anxiety, anger, control, sadness, depression, inadequacy, confusion, hurt, loneliness, guilt and shame - these are all fear-based emotions. Emotions such as joy, happiness, caring, trust, compassion, truth, contentment, satisfaction, these are love-based emotions. Each decision we make can be traced back to one of two motivators; love or fear.

The world in which we live is for many, at the moment, a scary place. I don’t know about you, but there are times when I feel I’m living in a world being driven by a very drunk driver.

The world financial markets are in meltdown. Banks are being propped up with massive amounts of government funds. There is even talk of governments going bankrupt. People's lifetime savings are at risk. Each time we turn on the news, or open our newspapers, we seem to be faced with insecurity and fear. We cannot watch or listen to the news without wondering what greater disaster might be lying round the next corner.

Yet this presents an opportunity to reflect on what trust in God is really about. As Christians we know that our real security is not in banks and governments, but in a God whose gifts to us of love, forgiveness and the promise of eternal life are of everlasting value. They cannot be shaken by downturns in the markets, or uncertainty in the world around us. God isn’t surprised by what is happening. He knows that these are tough and challenging times and He longs to see us in all the uncertainty, turning to Him and allowing Him to turn fear to faith, doubt to confidence and our worry about the future, into trust that God is still on the throne of the universe and whatever happens, we can trust Him and allow Him to love us and meet our needs.

Are we going to cling on to our fears, knowing how helpless they make us feel? Or will we, like so many have down through the centuries, put our trust in the God whom we’ve seen in Jesus, to give us the peace we crave? God’s perfect love casts out fear. (1 John 4:18)

Is this a gift we can afford to refuse?

With every blessing, Sue Wilson

P.C.E. Milnthorpe Primary School News Schools’ news The new school year has begun very positively at Milnthorpe Primary School as we have welcomed 75 new nursery and reception pupils. Judging from their smiley faces, they appear to be enjoying their time with us and have settled in very well. One of our most exciting events so far this term has been Book Week. The children engaged in a number of activities including writing their own books, reciting poetry, role play and making pink milk! By the end of the week, the children were even more enthused and motivated about reading than usual. Next half-term, the children in the juniors will be experimenting with clay and making a variety of objects. We would welcome any help from volunteers in the local area who may have experience of working with clay, particularly any one with experience of using a kiln. Please contact school on 62344 for further details.

Levens Primary School News A beautiful autumn morning in September saw the whole School, parents and friends, enjoying a joyful and varied Harvest Festival Service at St John’s; the children returned to School for a Harvest Lunch of bread, cheese and fruit courtesy of Asda. Donations for the meal, of £135 were included with the village Harvest Appeal. The whole School are very excited about our imminent acquisition of an allotment in the village. Several very kind, green fingered parents will be helping the children with the work and cultivation, and we eagerly look forward to seeing the fruits of their labours – Mrs Mason has great plans for the produce during her cookery sessions and watch this space for School grown fruit and vegetables at next Harvest Festival! Lastly, we are eagerly collecting Morrison’s ‘Let’s Grow’ vouchers and Flora ‘Cooking with Schools’ vouchers; if you have any to spare, please put them in our letter box! We will be holding a School Open Afternoon on Tuesday 11th November, from 1.30- 2.45 pm. All members of the community are warmly invited to attend'.

Heversham St Peter’s Primary School News The new term has started with several successful events. In September, Year 6 went on a residential visit to York where they were able to supplement their Victorian studies, especially in the Castle and Railway Museums. They also had a fascinating tour of the magnificent and learned about its history and the future renovations. The school Harvest Service this year was based around considering God’s gifts to us and the basics people need to survive. Sketches were performed to show the work of organisations that care for others and a collection of tins was presented to

Manna House to help with its work aiding people in our local area. October 6th saw the start of Book Week and the children could barely believe their eyes when they saw the school full of Paddington Bears and his stories. The whole week was given over to activities linked to the famous Bear’s 50th anniversary: making marmalade, healthier sandwiches, Paddington biscuits; painting bears and making Wellington footprints; discussing the stories and creating plays. The children even researched the country of his origin and replied to postcards from Aunt Lucy in Peru. In addition to learning all about the Bear, the children raised money for Action Medical Research and their Tiny Lives campaign through their sponsored suitcase fill and Bring a Bear to School Day. A fun way to learn and help others! 11
