J. Walker and General Divisions for: Butler shipwrecks in Burlington Bay to the National Register of Historic Places at its July 28, * Community 1998, meeting. The Register is the official national list of historic properties * Community Development worthy of preservation. Listing in the National Register provides recognition and assists in * Historic preserving our Nation's heritage. Enclosed is a copy of the criteria under which properties Preservation * Housing are evaluated and a fact sheet on the results of National Register listing. * Planning National Life Listing of the property will provide recognition of their historic importance and assured Building protective review of Federal projects that might adversely affect its character. If the Drawer 20 Montpelier, VT property is listed in the National Register, certain Federal investment tax credits for 05620-0501 rehabilitation and other provisions may apply. Public visitation rights are not required of owners. Fax: The Federal government will not attach restrictive covenants to the property or seek to 802-828-2928 acquire it. Historic Preservation Fax: Owners of private properties nominated to the National Register have an opportunity to 802-828-3206 concur in or object to listing in accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act and 36 CFR 60. Any owner or partial owner of private property who chooses to object to listing may submit to the State Historic Preservation Officer a notarized statement certifying that the party is the sole or partial owner of private property and objects to the listing. Each owner or partial owner of private property has one vote regardless of what part of the property that party owns. If a majority of private property owners object, a property will not be listed; however, the State Historic Preservation Officer shall submit Page 2 May 27, 1998 Preservation an opportunity to comment before the agency may fund, license, or assist a project that will affect the property. If you choose to object to the listing of your property, the notarized objection must be submitted to Eric Gilbertson, Director/Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer, National Life Building, Drawer 20, Montpelier, VT 05620-0501, and received in this office by July 27, 1998. If you wish to comment on whether the property should be nominated to the National Register, please send your comments to the SHPO before the Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation considers this nomination on July 28, 1998.
