Arutchelvar Dr. N Mahalingam, was the Founder Chairman of Sakthi Group, 6,000 crore rupees industrial conglomerate operating in sugar, automobiles, finance, power and logistics. Dr. N. Mahalingam was a philanthropist, educationalist and statesman. He has established a number of educational institutions and known for his support to various spiritual and cultural organisations.

He was born on 21 March 1923 in an agriculture family at to P Nachimuthu Gounder, who started the Sakthi Group in 1921 by diversifying his traditional business of hiring out bullock carts to starting a passenger transport services. Nachimuthu Gounder’s only son Mahalingam joined the business in 1943 and helped grew the business to its current level. He was the founder of many educational institutions from schools to colleges. Some of his educational institutions are Kumaraguru College of Technology, KCT Business School, Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science , Nachimuthu Polytechnic college, Mahalingam college of , NGM College.

He held several important positions and played major roles fostering the development of agricultural, industrial, human resource and institutional development at the State and National levels. He served as a Member of Legislative Assembly of from 1952 to 1967 and was on the Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission for two terms. His social and humanitarian considerations took his journey beyond the boundaries of industries and scholarly tenets he nurtured. He received the Padma Bhushan award from the Government of India in 2007 for his contributions to the nation in the field of Trade and Industry. His other honors include Honorary Consul from the Government of Mauritius during 1989 to 1992 and a number of other recognition and awards.

The enigmatic life merged into the light on October 2, 2014, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Until the last moment, Dr. NM was doing what he believed and envisioned talking about Saint Vallalar’s philosophy. Throughout his life Dr. NM carried the twin torches of Gandhian values and Vellalar’s way of life. KCT Institutions brings together technology, liberal arts, management and agriculture under a single banner. The flagship Institution of Sakthi group - Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), is an Engineering College started in 1984 under the auspices of Ramanandha Adigalar Foundation, a charitable educational trust of Sakthi Group. It is situated in a sprawling environment friendly, green campus of 150 acres in the IT corridor of Coimbatore. Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), its magnificent campus and the edifice, signifying a temple of knowledge , enormous reputation, robust departments and more were all born out of the vision and dedicated efforts of the Founder Chairman Dr. N. Mahalingam .The institution is steered towards excellence and success by Dr. B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Shri. M. Balasubramaniam, Correspondent and Shri Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent.

Over the last three decades, several new programmes have been introduced and the institution has emerged as a trusted destination for quality technical education and as a hub for research and innovation. Currently the college, as an autonomous institution affiliated to the Anna University, offers 14 under-graduate (B.E., B.Tech.) and 15 post-graduate (M.E.,M.Tech., MCA, MBA) programs of study. All the above programmes have the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and all the eligible UG programs have also been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). In addition, KCT has also been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission (UGC). 10 of the 15 academic departments have been recognized as research centers permitting research leading to Ph.D. degree by Anna University. Academic New Program launch TheCoimbatore Center for Weavers, Kumaraguru College of Technology is authorized by NSDC as a facilitating center to train and certify the weavers of Coimbatore and cluster. National Skill Development’s Council’s - Textile Sector Skill Council has granted Rs.6,50,000 /- to train the handloom weavers under the PMKVY’s Recognition of Prior Learning (Camp Mode) scheme from December 2019 to March 2020. Dr.B.Poongodi, Assistant Professor, KCT Business School and Dr.G.Ramakrishnan, Professor and Head, Department of Fashion Technology are the coordinators of this scheme and will coordinate training the weavers on skills gaps and orientation on Jacquard Weaving, Hank Dyeing and Textile Designing job roles in KCT between Dec 2019 to Mar 2020.

KCT Business School launched and conducted a 10 month interest, Sensitization on ethics, values and social Diploma programme “Diploma in Banking” for students of responsibility. As a part of Managerial economics course, a visit to various local markets was scheduled for students of I MBA (Batch 2019- 20). Students were organized into 36 teams and visited various markets in and around Coimbatore including Fruit market, Flower market, Utensils market, Cosmetics market, Bag market, MettupalayamVegetable Mandi, UzhavarSandhai, Fish Market, Saibaba Koil Anna Vegetable Market, Gandhipuram Electronic Market, Texvalley Market, Turmeric Market, Mettupalayam Fish Market, Kotagiri Vegetable Market, Ukkadam Old Books Market, Tirupur KadherPettai Cloth Market, Coimbatore Townhall Spices Market, Furniture Market, Food grains market, Coimbatore, Ukkadam Tyagi Kumaran Vegetable Market. The students got to know about markets, nature of products dealt by them, suppliers, logistics, demand – supply mechanism, price determination, profits, marketing and selling strategies, type of market structure, customer relationship management and challenges faced by them. Overall students had a real time experience of being in the market to understand the entire market mechanism.

Mr. Naveen MP, Sports - Lead Manager of Decathlon took the students around the store and introduced the concepts of Segmentation, Targeting and Positioning. The platform provided inputs on different product categories, relevance of spatial arrangement for better product visibility and also the rationale behind why certain products were stocked in Coimbatore which was different from other stores located in other towns/cities.

Retail store visit was organized for I MBA students (Batch 2019-21). Ms. Sujatha, Marketing Manager, Brookefields interacted with students on various marketing strategies that they practice to pull in customers on weekdays and weekends. The platform also shared the significance of anchor shops, Mall layout, location advantage and allotment of various stores in improving the store visibility.

Students (Batch 2019-21) visited GRASP Textile, where Giri Managing Partner, GRASP interacted with the students on various marketing strategies practised to attract new customers and retain existing customers. He reiterated that attractive store ambience, pricing, product categories, strong sourcing and commitment of core team are the major aspects in retail business.

KCT Business School and Department of Fashion Technology jointly took up the UBA Baseline Survey. 55 Students of I MBA (Batch 2019-21) executed the Village and Household Survey at Samathur. Activity Based Learning Student association of KCT Business School organized their annual shopping fest ANGADI 2020 - A trade fair between March 5-7, 2020 as part of Yugam 2020. The theme for Angadi was on women entrepreneurs who have put everything on the line, to build and grow their businesses.70 stalls by women entrepreneurs and a footfall of nearly 6500 marked the success of Angadi 2020. In keeping with the theme,Angadi 2020 was inaugurated by Ms Ranjana Singhal, Managing Partner – On the Go and That’s Y Food, Managing Director – Café Totaram.

Nearly 40 students of KCT.BS performed a Flash mob to attract and hold the crowd which had an amazing response from the audience. The stall quality and the student’s efforts were evaluated by the Alumnus of KCT.BS. The winners of Angadi 2020 are as follows.

Book Publication • Dr.B.Poongodi, Dr.Shahaida, Dr Neetha Mahadev and Dr Monirul Islam authored a book on “Rural Management Marketing Perspective” edited by Dr. W G Prassana Kumar , Dr.K.N.Rekha and Ms.V.Anasuya. The book with ISBN - 978-93-89431-03-2 was published by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), in July 2019.

The annual planning meet for 2019-20 was organized on October 19 and 20, 2019. Faculty set attainable annual goals based on the NEP and ACBSP, which allows them to make progress on larger career goals, to broaden their repertoire of expertise and the vision and mission of the Business School. Pioneering business leaders industrialists and visiting professors from around the world come to KCT Business School to share their thoughts and experiences. They includedNine adjunct faculty from the industry, who taught full courses in all the semesters and 38 guest faculty from the industry and 8 from academia interacted with the students on specific topics from the curriculum.626 hours of classroom lectures/ discussions were taught by industry professionals.

Industry Mentors Connects with the industry, helps to draw on the market trends to provide out of – the box education, it generates an impact and helps to re-imagine methodologies. 18 Mentors from the industry have supported KCT. BS by providing a valuable perspective to complement course material and providing our students career awareness. Periodic meetings were conducted with the industry mentors to update and upgrade the curricula and teaching pedagogy to keep up with the standards of the industry. Focus group discussion on the upgrading of curriculum to suit industry trends was conducted in May 2020. 31 top executives spanning the different areas of specialization brainstormed and shared their inputs to make our students industry ready. Unleashing Domain Leaders in Business- ABT Limited

KCT.BS was a knowledge partner for the Leadership program offered by Sakthi Excellence Academy for ABT Limited– Unleashing Domain Leaders in Business - on seven weekends for the middle level and potential leaders of ABT Limited. 38 participants from both ABT Maruti and Parcel Services successfully completed the Leadership Course which was facilitated by the faculty of KCT.BS. The program covered all functional areas from the Business domains namely Operations and Logistics, Marketing, Finance and Data Science.

A consultancy on improving Air Quality Performance and Blower Efficiency along with reports on performance study of dust bag filter was carried out forIndo Shell Foundry Limited. Navigation through specialization Specialization Induction Program was organized for students of Batch 2019-21. The various specialization offered in the department and the role of specialization and its importance in one’s career was reiterated. Students were encouraged to choose specialization based on their skills and their field of interest. Support for Entrepreneurship

The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (CEED) in KCT. BS aims to respond to the ambition and entrepreneurial spirit of the student and equip them with all the tools they need. To promote entrepreneurship amongst the students, the centre had organized 4 Entalk, a talk program with entrepreneurs, Students participated in a workshop on Design Thinking conducted by Orenda Social Enterprises. Students participated in a MSME Awareness Camp. Students were encouraged to do internship in family businesses and preparation of the Business Plan during the major project, 7 projects were completed. A student has registered his start up manufacturing unit.

Student Centered Activities Recharge 2019 The Recharge’19 for Batch 2018-20 was organized to kick start the placement season. Students opting for placement, along with their parents were briefed about training plans for the academic year and the corporate expectations. The placement statistics of the previous year was presented to the parents and their wards. The placement guidelines and policy were reiterated. Students with an entrepreneurial spirit were encouraged to pursue their dreams. Leverage on expanding the family business was also emphasized. Students were able to understand a business model in a structured way.
