... "The Gospel lllessage takes on a new immediacy and stronger color when one walks in the places where spoke and sees the landscapes that Jesus saw. In fact, the geography and local customs so influence some pages of the Bible that it is difficult to understand them without having seen this land" ... FRIDAY, MARCH 7 - Our day begins at the Western Wall or Wailing Wall, where devout offer up prayers at these remaining holy stones of the glorious second temple. We are aware that now the only structures standing on the Temple Mount are the Moslem Shrines of the Dome of the Rock and el Aqsa. Next near Zion Gate we go to the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, built over the spot where Our Lord was held in the dungeon of Caiphas' house. We celebrate MASS IN ST. PETER IN GALLICANTU. Here we renew our own Baptismal Promises. Nearby we drive into Jericho, the most ancient city in the Holy Land. We can recall its prominence for events in both the Old and New Testaments. At the parish church there served by the Franciscans we celebrate HOLY MASS. Then we ascend by cable car to the top of Mt. Temptation for a Middle Eastern lunch, which is included. Next we go to the shore of the Dead Sea, where some may take the opportunity to swim in its mineral rich waters. It is 2000 years old and very typical of the boats used by the Apostles who had been fishermen. A short distance from the north shore of the lake we reach Bethsaida.
