The big favorite in the mens class – Daniel Hubmann – did a five minute mistake which cost him all possibilities for an overall victory. The second day of MOC 2010 was organized in the tricky Forest Umbra terrain – a limestone plateau carved with hundreds of depressions that make orienteering technically attractive. But Simone told that she had not a perfect race and the prelast starter Helena Jansson used her chance and took the victory at this race and won the MOC with 10 seconds. Comparing to the poll ahead of the competition, only 16% believed in Jansson, whereas more than half of the voters thought Niggli would take the victory. Who will win the MOC 2010 overall in the womens class? Daniel Hubmann won the nightsprint ahead of his brother Martin – but after the middle distance race in the tricky Forest Umbra, JWOC champion Matthias Kyburz won with Baptiste Rollier in second spot and Andi Kyburz in third spot. Again all places on the podium to Swiss runners – but three new runners compared to the sprint yesterday. Again comparing to the poll ahead of the competition, more than 70% believed in Daniel Hubmann ahead of the races. Hubmann against Öberg In the first big meeting of the year – the middle distance with World Ranking Event (WRE) status at Portugal O-meeting Thierry Gueorgiou took the victory in the mens class ahead of Emil Wingstedt and Fabian Hertner. Daniel Hubmann was disqualified for punching a wrong control at the WRE , but had an impressive race at the first day of Portugal O- meeting. In Italy Hubmann will get a new chance against the big runner of the 2009 spring season – Peter Öberg – who did not compete in Portugal. In Italy, they will meet Minna Kauppi, who is ready to leave the snow in Finland and become a gazelle in Italy – according to Kauppi is is nearly half a year since she was running the last time. It doesn’t stop there – however: Also coming to MOC according to Viale are the top Swedes Linnea Gustavsson, Kajsa Nilsson and Lena Eliasson. Sprint, Middle and Relay MOC this year consists of three events, • Friday February 26th: Sprint – Peschici (historic town) • Saturday February 27th: Middle – Foresta Umbra (tricky terrain with depressions, see map sample above and here ) • Sunday February 28th: Relay – Piano Impiombato (mostly grasslands, some depressions) In addition there will be a prologue Friday morning. None of the events at MOC are World Ranking Events. Italy’s Elvio Cereser (Open) and Sweden’s Michael Johansson (Paralym- pic) got the best times in view of the second competition scheduled on Svetlana Mironova (RUS) ahead of Alexandersson (SWE) Friday morning in Campomuletto di Gallio (Veneto region).     Introduction

    INTRODUCTION Trail orienteering (TrailO, also precision orienteering or PreO) is one of four orienteering sports authorized by the International Orienteering Federation (IOF). It’is a sport offered to people with widely different physical abilities, including those with severely restricted mobility, who all compete on equal terms. Competitors move along a track or marked route and study clusters of control markers placed in the terrain. They are issued with a very detailed map, and control descriptions. With these aids they must decide which (if any) of the markers relates to the feature depicted by the centre of the circle. Movement up and down the track is permitted but no one may approach the control markers in the terrain. TrailO is a challenging event for foot orienteers as well as those who can't manage the physical challenge of regular orienteering. Several of the competitors in the Open class at WTOC are also top orienteers in FootO, and current world champion Thierry Gueorgiou was a European TrailO Champion a few years back. It's also a great training exercise and should improve your map and terrain interpretation skills. European Championships in trail orienteering have been organised every year since 1994. The first ever World Cup in trail orienteering was held in 1999, and the inaugural World Trail Orienteering Championships were organised in 2004 (Västerås, Sweden). The World Championships are organised every year. COMPETITION TYPES PreO________________________________________________________ __________ PreO is the traditional form of trail orienteering. Competitors are given a map at the start. The locations of the controls, the start and the finishing line are marked on the map, as in traditional orienteering.

Nun will beispielsweise der Fricktaler Matthias Kyburz als momentaner Leader im Gesamtweltcup Ziele seine Saison erfolgreich beenden. Am Wochenende vom 14.–16. Oktober tri sich nicht nur erreichen die OL-Weltelite im Aargau. Nicht nur auf sportlicher Ebene, sondern auch in der gesamten Verbandsarbeit. Und wie messen wir das? Vergleichswerte auf rein sportlicher Ebene bestehen, können herangezogen werden und sind immer wieder zu analysieren. Es gibt sie aber auch in den weniger messbaren Bereichen wie der Verbandsarbeit. Einschätzungen von aussen und insbesondere von Swiss Olympic können die eigene Wahrnehmung bestätigen und die Entwicklung sichern. Da lassen wir uns gerne in die Karten schauen! Im Gespräch mit Swiss Olympic und anderen Sportverbänden dürfen wir feststellen, dass wir als „Nichtolympischer Sportverband“ mit unseren ehrenamtlichen Strukturen und mit unseren Ressourcen sehr viel erreichen und als Partner sehr geschätzt sind. Das ist sehr erfreulich. OL in seiner ganzen Vielfalt In allen unseren drei Sparten – Fuss-OL, Bike-OL und Ski-OL – haben unsere Athletinnen und Athleten hervorragende Leistungen erbracht. Sie benötigten dazu eine grosse Begeisterung für den OL-Sport, gepaart mit den nötigen Skills und einem intakten und unterstützenden Umfeld. Auch der finanzielle Support aus dem eigenen Umfeld und von Verbandsseite ermöglicht das Erreichen der Bestform. Nicht immer ist der Weg dorthin geradlinig, aber meistens einigermassen geebnet und ausgebaut. Wirklich grosse Hindernisse sind wenige erkennbar und kleinere lassen sich überwinden. Wir bleiben gemeinsam dran, grosse Erfolge möglich zu machen! Strukturen sind verlässlich Nach dem zweiten Jahr in der neuen Verbandsorganisation lässt sich erkennen, dass die Strukturen gut und stabil sind und sich die darin involvierten Menschen engagiert und gewinnbringend bewegen können.

Gemperle 2019 MOC Championship 1 B ULLETIN 1 October 2019 MOC – Mediterranean Open Championships 2005-2020 Over the years, quite a few orienteers have ‘Followed the Sun’ to Italy in search of warmer weather, good food and company, interesting maps and unique orienteering challenges: to experience what MOC has to offer. MOC has helped develop elite sprint athletes, as many of the races are Sprints. The key ‘mover and shaker’ and ‘concept creator’ is Gabriele Viale, a gregarious and effervescent character whose relaxed approach puts everyone at ease. He is very much a seeker of solutions and rarely accepts no for an answer. He is great with local governments/ councils, getting them on board and pro-O, enabling Orienteers to access and race on/round/in/on/through and even under, a huge variety of awesome areas, some of great cultural and historical significance. Born out of the international experience of Park World Tour, the main circuit of international orienteering races in historical centers and city-parks, the MOC (Mediterranean Open Championships) in Orienteering answered the need of a strong yearly international orienteering event in the Mediterranean area. The concept of MOC was developed by Gabriele Viale. The first edition of Mediterranean Open Championship took place in 2005 in Salento, with races in Carovigno, Gallipoli, Otranto and Brindisi. In March 2006 MOC was taken to Sicily and Basilicata, with stages in Palermo and Lagonegro. In March 2007 MOC was back in Puglia, hugging Bari district (In the historical centers of Bari, Altamura, Bosco della Difesa Grande of Gravina di Puglia), Salento (Torcito di Cannole Park, Carovigno) and Taranto district.

GPS tracking and biometric data bring the drama of the competition to spectators and media and the events fit nicely into a 45-minute TV broadcast, Eivind Tonna says. He is a top athlete and the leader of the IOF Athletes’ Commission in Ski Orienteering. The IOF has applied for ski orienteering to be included in the programme of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games featuring sprint and mixed sprint relay, with two athletes of each gender. – I can't really see any other sports that can be better candidates than ski orienteering but hard work is needed to succeed. I will do my utmost to promote ski orienteering in the best way I can. Eivind Tonna is the chairman of the Ski Orienteering Athletes’ Commission.
