WEST SENECA, NEW YORK Week of August 1, 2021 From the Desk of Jennifer Lang, Director of Faith Formation In today’s Second Reading, we hear to “put away the old self … and put on the new self, created in God’s way ...” It’s important to teach the foundations and traditions of our faith. I still remember an older man who brought flowers to Church and placed them at the feet of the Blessed Mother the Sunday following May Crowning, and then said a prayer. Sometime, long ago, someone had taught him to have reverence for Mary. Many years later, he continued his devotion, yet with a much deeper love and faith in his heart. Ask yourself how you can instill a faithfulness to others around you. Also, be sure to send in your registration forms for Faith Formation. St. Cajetan (August 7th) St. Cajetan (1280-1557), was born in Vin- cenza, Italy. At the University of Padua, he was an outstanding student in theology and law. St. Cajetan became a priest and with his education he could have had a success- ful career in the Curia as an advisor to the Pope. Instead he chose to serve the poor and the sick. He founded a hospital for people with incurable diseases. Before long, other men wanted to help him with his work, so he be- gan a religious order called Theatines. St. Cajetan trained his fellow priests in the study of the Bible, in the truths of the Catholic faith, and in restoring prayerful ways of worship in the Parishes. During the last few years of his life, he spent many hours each day in prayer. He was canonized in 1671. St. Cajetan, pray for us! This Week at St. John’s Sunday Mass. We’re Open: Saturday 4:00 p.m. Vigil, Sunday 8:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. Also view Mass live on Facebook, YouTube, and at www.stjohn23.com.
