Typically, LGA775 motherboards with good overclother capabilities are significantly more expensive than socket AM2 overclocker boards. The purpose of our article today is to find out what the low- cost Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, based on the Intel P35 Express chipset, which today is only slightly more than $100, is capable of. Originally, this chapter was intended to briefly talk about Gigabyte's parent boards, based on the Intel P35 Express chipset, but in the company currently has 14 such boards. In fact, this considerable number should be increased by 2-3 times, as many boards are issued in several modifications, and it is obvious that even a superficial consideration of their capabilities goes beyond the scope of this article. Alternatively, you can learn the basics of Gigabyte motherboard labelling. Let's fix this unfortunate gaffe. The name of any Gigabyte motherboard begins with a pair of letters GA, followed by the name of the chipset through the hyphen, in our case P35. Gigabyte's marketing department has decided that the boards currently under consideration are S Series, meaning they are smart, speed, and safe. Three words on the letter S can be replaced by a combination of S3 and one of the simplest Gigabyte motherboards called THE GA-P35-S3. If only solid capacitors are used in the production of the motherboard, it receives an additional letter D from the word durable before the title of the series. An example is the GA-P35-DS3, which differs from the previous board only by the type of capacitors. However, even in the GA-P35-S3 in the processor power scheme, as the most responsible, capacitors with solid electrolyte are used, despite the absence of a D in the name. Motherboards, whose chipset is cooled by heat tubes (Silent-Pipe), receive an additional word on the letter S and win the right no longer S3, but S4. However, if the thermal tubes are used only to cool the northern bridge, and not the entire chipset, the fee still belongs to the S3 group. An example is GA-P35-DS3P. By the way, the P in the name GA-P35-DS3P, apparently, appeared from the word pair, such boards are equipped with two slots PCI Express x16. They belong to the top of the S3 group and use southern bridges with the ability to create RAID-massives, as well as motherboards with the R letter at the end of the name. The example is GA-P35-DS3R. It is known that the Intel P35 Express chipset is capable of working with both DDR2 memory and DDR3, and Gigabyte motherboards, which are given the opportunity to work with these two types of memory, after the name of the chipset receive an additional C letter, presumably from the word combo. The example is GA-P35C-DS3. Boards working with the new DDR3 memory are allocated to a special group, which after the name of the chipset receives the letter T from the word three. An example is GA-P35T-DS3P. Of course, such a system of names can not fully reflect the diversity of models of motherboards. It does not take into account the presence of additional controllers, such as IEE1394, the number of Serial ATA connectors, the set of connectors on the back, but still is much more informative than the accepted designation systems of most other motherboard manufacturers. A general idea of the possibilities of the board can be made by its name. Today we will look at one of the simplest Motherboards Gigabyte, based on the Intel P35 Express chipset - GA-P35-DS3L. The North Bridge of the chipset is cooled by a large aluminum radiator. Despite its dimensions, its temperature during the tests was very high. For a less hot south bridge ICH9 is quite a small radiator. In the south bridge area, there is a single conspicuous lack of the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard, a very low-lying IDE that provides the JMicron 368 controller. The plume that stretches across the entire system block to the optical drive, which is usually located at the top, does not look very aesthetically pleasing and interferes with the movement of air flows. If you also have a hard drive with a Parallel ATA interface, connecting both it and CD or DVD-ROM will not be an easy task. However, over time, this problem will be less and less important, thanks to the disappearance of IDE HDD and the proliferation of optical drives with the SATA interface. Reducing the number of SATA connectors to four is hardly a serious drawback of the Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, not many users use more than four HDDs.
