Dear Sir

I have just returned from holiday and parked on Iping Common to walk my dog when I saw the notice and map with reference to fencing of Iping Common.

I attended a meeting - together with a lot of other concerned people - in early 2014 - with the , regarding the possible fencing of the Common. Following on from that I signed a Petition objecting to the fencing. The vast majority of the attendees (only about 3 dissenting) were fiercely against the fencing for a variety of good reasons, and the Wildlife Trust was made very aware of them, but it was pretty obvious from the start that there was scant regard for the opinions of the many.

And now we find ourselves re-addressing this problem. It is extremely arrogant of the Wildlife Trust to ride roughshod over the majority - all of whom are local to the Common. I see that there are to be 17 Bridle gates - and other kissing gates, which horses do not of course have to negotiate. As you see above, I do have as horse and regularly ride on the common, and certainly do not want these extra hazards which we have never had. This will be particularly hazardous should I have my young grandchildren with me on a pony.

You are of course aware - how could you not be? - of the fact that the Trust owned cattle grazing on the fenced Common, that brought with them TB and caused havoc, particularly with the very local farmer who, as a result, contracted TB in his dairy herd. It also affected other local farmers who had to have more regular TB Testing - at their own expense.

Stedham Common did not seem to benefit from the fenced/grazing cattle, and it is a job to see how Iping Common will benefit, as a Common, let alone the inconvenience and angst of the local residents.

Yours truly

(Mrs.) Angela Church
