Any movement requires a team. 's DJ Scream knows that fact very well. The artist, Hoodrich Entertainment founder, mogul, and personality has spent his entire career focusing on ways to assemble the strongest hip-hop collective possible, constantly looking to the underground and beyond for the next wave of talent. That same mindset fuels his forthcoming full-length debut for Maybach Music Group and , Hunger Pains.

"It's a tribute to street music and all of the guys out there vying to reach a new level," he explains. "It's about being hungry whether you're just starting out or you've seen massive success in already. I wanted to bring those two sides together. I'm pushing the young artists who are trying to get to that legendary status as well as the icons to give me the same hunger. New people are playing with legends on the same court. The best music comes from being hungry and feeling those Hunger Pains. I'm the orchestrator of all that."

This became his dream at a very young age. With parents who actually met in a record store, Scream seemed destined to pursue music. After watching Juice, he recognized the power of being a DJ and saved up money for his first set of turntables at twelve-years-old. By the time he entered his senior year at college, he became the campus's hottest DJ, playing nearly four nights a week. "I think I was making more than some of my professors," he laughs.

In 2004, he parlayed that momentum into the foundation of Hoodrich Entertainment. A marketing, branding, and management venture co-founded with his business partner and manager Marcos Rippy, the company quickly established itself as a crucial player within the Atlanta scene.

At the same time, they built Scream's own brand as a go-to mixtape curator, host, and notable personality. Mixtapes ranged from grassroots career-making campaigns for and to celebrated projects for Juicy J, Snoop Dogg, Soulja Boy, and more. He also hosted his weekly mix show Hoodrich Radio on Sirius XM Hip Hop Nation and Atlanta's Hot 107.9 FM, playing the likes of and before anybody in the country. Now, Hoodrich Entertainment represents platinum-certified producer DJ Spinz and hit-makers and Dun Deal, as well as nearly 15 of hip-hop’s most notable DJs.

As Scream continued grinding even harder, an unexpected phone call opened up major label doors in 2011.

"One day, called me. He told me he was a fan of my work and my hustle. He urged me to just keep doing what I'm doing. At the time, I thought, 'How did he get my number?'," he laughs. "We kept a dialogue going. Then, he asked me to be a part of the MMG team. I was so honored. He gave me the opportunity to put out an album on a major. Ross is an artist and a businessman. With all of his success, he still works harder than anybody. I'm inspired by that. We're taking everything up a notch now together."

Hunger Pains is that next level. The first single "Always" [featuring Waka Flocka Flame, , Que, and Tracy T] breaks out of the gate with incendiary verses from all four MCs, raw energy, and an undeniable hook.

"I wanted to make an anthem that causes people to stand up as soon as they hear it," Scream continues. "It's about consistency. You're always riding in a nice car. You've always got a nice female. You always dress right. You're always hustling. You're always getting money. Other things keep happening though, and you're always dealing with adversity or problems. It's a very down-to-earth record that relates to the common person."

Scream stays in the public consciousness constantly, keeping his finger on the pulse of what's hot. He's toured worldwide and appeared on BET's 106&Park, MTV's Rap Fix Live, The Monique Show, and more. XXL, The Source, GQ, Vibe, and others have featured him, while MTV recognized him as one of the "Top DJs of the Year," as well as being nominated for “DJ Of The Year” at the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards. Still, his journey starts now.

Ultimately, Scream and his team stand at their strongest yet on Hunger Pains though. "This is the album I've been working towards my whole life," he leaves off. "Even before Ross ever called me, I told myself, 'If I get a chance to do an album, this is how I'm going to do it'. It was a dream in my head. I pledged to make it a platform for new talent. You'll hear the legends in rare form, but you'll hear the young dudes as well. I wanted to create something people would be happy with if it was on a cassette tape and they had to listen to it in its entirety. It's an experience you have to follow from beginning to end." 04/2014
