Welcome to the Death Star. Come out, come out, whoever you are. Show us your license and registration, And we will proceed with the interrogation. And what we will do, what we will do Is exactly what Lord Vader told us to. We follow our orders, and if they are few, This Stormtrooper Manual gives us our cue. <Stormtroopers hold up Stormtrooper Manual.> ST 11: No one emerges. Go in there and find them, And if they won't come, you be sure to remind them That if they resist, then we won't be so nice. After their torture, we'll murder them twice. <Some Stormtroopers exit to search the Millennium Falcon, then return.> ST 12: We searched the whole ship until it was inverted. There's no one aboard, sir. This vessel's deserted. The log book says when they ran into the aster- Oid belt, they bailed out to avoid the disaster. Chorus: What do we do? What do we do? We've captured a ship, but it hasn't a crew. Chorus: This is so weird that we haven't a clue. This manual doesn't say what we should do. ST 13: Go get in your fighters. See if they're alive, Though I don't imagine that they could survive In the asteroid belt, but sure we must be. Facing Vader is death if the crew is still free. ST 14: Vader's ship is arriving. Let's tell him in chorus. I'm sure that he will have some new orders for us. You two stay here. All the rest come along. I'd rather do nothing than do something wrong. Chorus: What do we do? What do we do? Lord Vader will surely have orders anew. Without our leader, we'd be in a stew. Lord Vader will tell us just what we should do. 40. THE DARK SIDE (Vader, Stormtrooper Chorus) <Enter Stormtroopers.> Vader: What good is good to me, To live a life of pious poverty, To risk your life fighting wrong, Protecting the weak from the strong? What can I gain from such a sacrifice? For me, it's already exacted an awful price. It left my body too deformed to be seen, And I am only kept alive by a machine. So now I only inspire fear. REBELS ARE WE (3) (General Dodonna, Scientist, Admiral Ackbar, Leia, Rebel Chorus) <Han, Chewbacca, Luke, C-3PO, R2-D2, and a chorus of Rebels attend as General Dodonna, a scientist, Admiral Ackbar, and Leia give a briefing.> General Good Princess Leia provided these plans. Dodonna: Our wildest hopes were exceeded. A hasty analysis says there's a chance The Death Star can be defeated. Rebel Rebels we are. We come from afar Chorus: To go into battle against the Death Star. Rebels are we, born to be free, Just like the fish in the sea. Scientist: The Death Star is armed for a full-scale assault. Small fighters would face no obstruction. This reactor vent here is the Star's only fault. A direct hit would cause mass destruction. Chorus: If during our blitz, just one missile hits That vent, then it would blow the Death Star to bits. Rebels are we, born to be free, Just like the fish in the sea. Admiral The target is small, just a meter or two. Ackbar: A near miss will not work, so your aim must be true. Leia: If the Death Star arrives still intact at this base, Then all of this moon will be blasted. The Force will be with you, but, just in case, Let me say it was fun while it lasted. Ah . Chorus: Though our odds are poor, we are very sure This cause is worth forfeiting our lives for. Rebels are we, born to be free, Just like the fish in the sea. 44. THE BATTLE (1) (Rebel 6, Rebel 7, C-3PO, Rebel 8, Rebel Chorus) Rebel Our fleet is off and away. Chorus: Our most courageous comrades enter the fray. The finest pilots that can be found in the galaxy Now risk their lives, so that one day we may all be free. There is little time to complete our mission. We must put the Death Star out of commission, Or in a few minutes, when it will arrive, It will blow us to pieces, and none will survive. We must find a way to destroy the Death Star. We must destroy the Death Star now. Rebel 6: Our fleet has now reached its objective. As predicted, the Death Star's defenses are ineffective. But now, the TIE fighters give us a reason to worry. They're swarming down on our fleet with unbridled fury. Rebel 7: Our X-wing craft is no match for the TIE. Their fighters are blasting us out of the sky. They've already blown half our fighters to bits, And sev'ral R2 units also were hit. C-3PO: <spoken> What? Oh, no! Not R2-D2! Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, whatever shall I do? I won't forgive myself if something happens to R2. Rebel 8: <spoken> Will somebody please turn that thing off?! C-3PO: You're far too small and delicate to be out in a war. R2-D2, what do you think they make humans for? <A Rebel turns off C-3PO.> Rebel 8: <spoken> Thank you. Chorus: Only one ship has made it so far, To reach the target region of the Death Star. Alas, his missiles landed just wide of the vent, Exploding harmlessly, barely making a dent. Now Luke Skywalker is our final hope, But Darth Vader's ship has come up on our scope. Luke's nearing the target, and he must not fail, But Lord Vader's ship is right there on his tail. Luke must find a way to destroy the Death Star. Luke must destroy the Death Star now.
