Whole-person Development Self-directed Learning Life-long Learning

I believe school plays a critical role to help students achieve personal excellence at their best endeavor through nurturing in them a set of positive values and developing their social, learning attitudes and professional competence conducive to life-long learning. We aspire to work together with teachers for the betterment of our society in our provision of well-educated student graduates who are also open-minded, loyal and dedicated citizens.

We advocate the following areas:

(1) provide quality education for cultivating students to learn at their initiatives Our teaching team is energetic and eager to learn. CFSS has established culture of project learning and curriculum reform. There are plentiful campus resources that can be well utilized for learning and teaching. Our school has put Student-centred Learning as one of the major school concerns in the School Development Plan 18 - 21. Experiential Learning is fostered in school for students to learn at their ease. Fortunately, nearly 1100 plant species have been cultivated in Environmental Trail & Rooftop in the campus. With Wi-Fi network and well-established CFSS Cloud Knowledge-based online platform, it is not difficult to start experiential learning to enhance students’ learning effectiveness on plant biodiversity. Similarly, this experiential learning framework is adopted in other subjects and learning activities on campus.

(2) help students develop perseverance and positive attitude to challenges Y2K youngsters are confronted by adversity in study, friendship, family and other personal matters. We strengthen students’ immunity to counteract adversity by culturing Healthy School Life. Through peer counselling activities and student support programmes, we try our very best to nurture students with a positive outlook on life and values. We foster a culture of resilience to help students face problems positively.

(3) cultivate students to be the caring individuals Message from School Principal As the world is entering the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, people are more individualized, with hampered personal communication but more satisfaction from the cyber virtual world. Cases of internet addiction, cyberbullying and Internet crime are not uncommon. We equip youngsters with skills to develop good interpersonal relationships, alertness to others’ needs, and recognition of needs for self-actualization. Teachers take an inevitable role in nurturing students to show care and love to their surroundings. They are the role models of the students for whole-person development with positive values. Last but not least, we, with the support of parents, help our children turn their dreams into reality. I invite you to visit CFSS and look forward to meeting you. CFSS is entering her 20th Anniversary with a series of celebratory events. Please continue to check the CFSS web page for upcoming information.

With best wishes,

Ho Tik Shun School Principal

p.4 School Profile

The Chinese Foundation Secondary School, established in 2000, is a non-profit-making, non-religious, non-denominational and co-educational whole-day school operated under the Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS). Facilities, teachers’ qualifications, and supervision are comparable to those of schools in the public sector. Being in the DSS, we enjoy greater flexibility and independence than a public sector school. This includes the ability to tailor- make our programmes to meet the various needs of students in the context of societal change. Each student is inspired to develop his/her academic, cultural, aesthetic, physical and social potentials in a caring, demanding and stimulating environment. The development of one’s independence, self-esteem and self-assurance is emphasized. Our objective is to inculcate the skills and values necessary to contribute to a multicultural and fast developing society.

We employ four native-speaking English teachers who play a pivotal role in sharpening students’ oral skills and promoting a rich English-speaking atmosphere through holding sharing sessions and activities outside class time, such as English Café, English Speaking Days and English Fest. In addition, small-class teaching in oral lessons gives greater attention to each student. Each class has been split into three to four groups led by three native-speaking English teachers and a local English teacher.

The English Language curriculum aims to motivate students to take the initiative in English learning. It also seeks to expose students to the use of English in reading, writing, listening and speaking contexts in the world.

R 1st July, 2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). To celebrate this significant milestone, the HKSAR Government was coordinating a EAM series of activities under the leadership of the former Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR, Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, GBM, GBS, JP. With the overarching theme of “Together • Progress • Opportunity”, a number of cultural, arts, sports and youth-related events will be organized to bring about social cohesion and unity, and build up confidence and seize opportunities. Hong Kong people will be able to share the joy of this 20th anniversary celebration.

As a Direct Subsidy Scheme school established in the last two decades, The Chinese Foundation Secondary School (CFSS) is particularly elated over this memorable occasion. While encouraging our students to fully support and participate in those well-organized celebration events, CFSS is also launching a series of educational activities entitled “CFSS • INNOVATION • STREAM” to further celebrate the 20th HKSAR Anniversary. STREAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Reading & Writing, Engineering & Robotics, Art & Design and Mathematics. The programme is run through various innovative activities so that more areas are involved to provide a synergetic effect. Our students have the opportunities to not only gain new knowledge and skills in these areas, but also nurture creativity and an innovative mindset in the process. Some of these activities will be open to the public to share our experience. Kick-off Ceremony (9 January 2017)
