Price list: Lepidoptera specimen farming LIST A - SATURNIIDAE How does it work? Dear customer, I am not the typical insect dealer. Although insects from this pricelist are commercially available, it is not in my interest to become a dealer in dried insects. At heart, I am a breeder, and thus, I offer my services as breeder. That includes selling papered ex pupa A1 quality specimens. However, breeding insects takes a lot more time and energy than simply collecting them from the wild. The advantages of captive reared material: - Breeding insects for collection purposes makes less impact on their populations in the wild rather than collecting them in nature - Freshly hatched moths (ex-pupa) are of the best possible quality, for they have had minimal time to fly and damage themselves - Breeding is a sustainable method to harvest Lepidoptera as natural resources - In some cases, breeding may be more cost-effective regarding species that are difficult to collect (and may yield a less skewed male to female ratio) The disadvantages of captive reared material: - Captive bred specimens are in some cases not representative for wild specimens; their colour, size and appearance may vary due to unnatural circumstances in captivity - The specimens are generally more expensive as breeding consumes more time and energy than collecting species that may occur in abundance - Not all livestock comes with exact locality data - Captive rearing may take a lot of time(!) – in some cases, it takes over a year to complete the life cycle of one species. Please be aware of this. - Captive rearing is prone to failure; viruses, inbreeding and other problems may cause the insects to become sick and die, fail to pair or emerge crippled (risk is involved) All insects offered on this list will be farmed by me personally. Thus, I may put a lot of time and effort into raising them, including all the risks involved. Minimum order: 130$ After ordering, you can contact me (email: [email protected] ) or through social media to tell me your order. Customers can send 50% of the total amount in advance, and pay the rest of the amount upon receiving the specimens. How do I order? Personally contact me via e-mail, and I will respond to you and work out the details, including shipping costs and your expectations and required time frame. What happens if you order? Then you will receive a monthly e-mail reporting the current progression. Once the required amount of specimens are available, you will receive another e-mail. What about shipping costs? Shipping costs generally vary between $10 and $40 depending on your geographical location and order. To calculate them, ask me about the shipping costs to your country and I shall calculate them, or alternatively propose a shipping method/service yourself. LINK: https://www.patreon.com/BartButterflies The prices of the specimens do not necessarily reflect market prices. Rather, they are priced by how difficult it is to breed and/or obtain them, and by how much effort it takes me to produce them; in fact, some common species can be hard to breed while some rare ones are easy to breed.
