During the recent High Tea with CEO event (page 07), IOI Corporation Berhad Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor describes how the company has managed to thrive amidst the challenges and encourages everyone to form a collective focus in order to achieve lasting success together.

Here is Dato’ Lee’s message as he expounds further on IOI’s path for 2018:

“Dear Colleagues, As we step into the New Year, it is a good time to reflect on the major events that happened during the year. Among the many events, I would like to particularly highlight two: Divestment of 70% Equity Interest Sustainability in IOI Loders Croklaan On the sustainability front, we have made much progress during In September 2017, IOI Group announced the divestment of 2017. Final Note

The beginning of a new year is a good time to renew our resolve to improve ourselves, find new ways to do things better than before, and collaborate more closely with our colleagues and business partners to ensure long-term success for the Group. This means making sure that our Plantation Division continues to be an efficient oil palm grower with high yield and competitive cost, our commodity marketing business maintains a reliable supply chain supplying traceable and sustainable palm oil, and our downstream business moves up the value chain by producing more specialty oleochemicals and more health food applications.

Labour costs have been increasing rapidly during the last few years and labour shortage is becoming more and more acute due to high turnovers and the preference of the foreign workers to work in their home countries.

IOI has been rather slow in adopting mechanisation and automation, which will reduce dependency on foreign workers in our estates and mills. Going forward, we will be setting up a dedicated unit to promote mechanisation and automation in our 80 plus estates. Loders Croklaan Europe (IOILC Europe) has launched Presdough 270 SB, a next-generation IOIshea-based shortening, for excellence in bakery products. This non-hydrogenated shortening can lower saturated fat in dough products by up to 40% and total fat by up to 20%, while retaining the desired flavour and texture as well as creating extra volume in puff pastries.

A growing number of bakeries and baked goods manufacturers in Europe are seeking alternatives to palm oil. These alternative vegetable fat blends for puff pastry are based on coconut and cocoa butter, which are costly hardstocks. Presdough 270 SB outperforms existing palm alternatives in terms of functionality and nutrition and is very cost-efficient.

Presdough 270 SB was one of the finalists for the highly competitive Reduction & Reformulation Innovation Award at the Food Ingredients Europe (FiE). Puff pastry products made with Presdough 270 SB were also available for tasting at IOILC Europe’s booth and proved to be very popular with FiE visitors.
