  • Flight Simulator Navigation
Flight Simulator Navigation What a beautiful sight—a DC-3 coming in for a landing. Welcome to this navigation tutorial devoted to Flight Simulator enthusiasts. This opening picture attests to my not-well-hidden love affair with the DC-3. You'll see more DC-3 pictures as you progress through this site, but not exclusively. Navigation is quite easy to learn and understand. Thousands of aviation students throughout the world are doing that right now either in aviation ground schools, at home with video-taped lessons, or with self-study books. Understanding and using basic navigation concepts is important to fully enjoy flight simulators, too. But, darn, I found no single site on the web for flight-sim enthusiasts that addresses everything from basic navigation, to low frequency navigation using the NDB (Non Directional Beacon), to VOR navigation, and the full range of instrument approaches. So this is my attempt to fill that void. And we're very proud to have received CompuFlight's Select Site Award. You'll do plenty of flying as you venture through the various subjects that follow, plus have the dubious honor of meeting the irrepressible Mr. Benjamin Counter. Counter, a captain of industry, is your best charter customer. There's never a dull moment when he schedules your services. He is, of course, a totally fictitious character. That's good because he gets into more situations than any mortal I've ever met. His Modus Operandi is "I need to fly now." He arrives in the "Plot a Course" section. I've also included some historical notes on early navigation systems.

    M. Jodi Rell GOVERNOR STATE OF CONNECTICUT RECHVED October 6, 2009 The Honorable Lisa P . Jackson OCT 1 3 2009 Administrator -- U.S . Environmental Protection Agency OFFICE OF THE REGMnL AN"INISTRATOR Ariel Rios Building, 1101 A 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, DC 20460 Dear Administrator Jackson: I am writing to provide you with Connecticut's recommended attainment designations for the revised national ambient air quality standard (NAAQS) for airborne lead, which was finalized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on October 15, 2008. Section 107(d)(1) of the Clean Air Act (CAA) provides up to one year after adoption of a new or revised NAAQS for states to submit recommendations identifying areas that comply with the standard or that violate or contribute to nearby violations of the standard. Based on a review of monitored data and consistent with CAA Section 107(d)(1) and EPA guidance, the entire state of Connecticut should be designated as attainment for the revised lead NAAQS. This recommendation for a statewide attainment designation is supported by available lead monitoring and emissions data, as summarized in the attachment. The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection's (CTDEP) most recent ambient lead measurements associated with total suspended particulate (TSP) monitors were collected in calendar year 2002. Those data indicate that maximum 3-month running averages at that time were 0.01 p,g/m3, well below the revised lead NAAQS of 0.15 pg/m3 . More recent lead levels gathered through 2008 are estimated to be less than 0.015 pg/m3, as derived from Connecticut's fine particle (PMZ.5) speciation sites.

Russell Field A.1 INTRODUCTION TO THE CASE STUDIES Participating Airports The Research Team set out to complete 10 to 12 case studies of airports with different fueling situations and management strategies. To meet this target, the team cast a wider net, knowing that not every airport would agree to participate; however, 16 airports were recruited. Table A‐1 presents the case study airports, their location (state), the number of based aircraft, and total operations. The list is sorted by total operations at each airport. Table A‐1.
