Even though it is a non-conference game, the Boyne City - East Jordan football season opener Friday night will be an emotional one for the fans and players of both towns. When the Red Devils and Ramblers square off at 8 p.m. on Boswell field in East Jordan, it will be the second game between the two schools since they renewed their old rivalry last year. The neighboring schools didn't play for 10 years from 1968 to 1977 when they were both in the Twin Valley School District. Last year, on Boyne's field, East Jordan edged the Ramblers 12-7 in an exciting game that saw Boyne fumble ' four times -• once on the 11 yard line in the last minute of the contest. Both coaches, Bob McCullough of Boyne City and Frank Holes of East Jordan, expect an exciting game Friday. "Boyne is a well-coached team," said Holes, whose Red Devils will be playing without 18 graduated members of last year's Ski-Valley conference co- champions. "Bob McCullough and Paul Pfahler do a good job. I expect they'll have some tricks up their sleeves."
