No. 015, 14 de marzo Colombia se afianza en el segundo lugar de los Suramericanos María Alejandra Idrobo conquistó la medalla de oro en la prueba reina del atletismo Santiago (Chile).- Con un total de 10 medallas de oro sumadas en la octava jornada, Colombia completó 38 preseas doradas y se afianzó en el segundo lugar del medallero general de los X Juegos Suramericanos Santiago 2014, escoltando de lejos a Brasil. La delegación nacional tomó ventaja de sus rivales directos, ya que con 38 oros, 31 platas y 42 bronces, se alejó de Argentina, que marcha tercero con 29 oros, 37 platas y 31 bronces, mientras que Venezuela es cuarto con 27 de oro, 26 de plata y 48 de bronce. Brasil es cómo líder con 67 oros, 41 platas y 50 bronces. El levantamiento de pesas continuó por la senda perfecta, al ganar nuevamente las tres medallas de oro por las que compitió, con Rusmeris Villar, en 53 kilogramos; José Mena en 69 kilos, y Jackeline Heredia en 58 kg., más el bronce de Yenny Álvarez en 53. El atletismo continuó con aporte dorado, porque entregó tres metales de oro, gracias a Flor Denis Ruíz en lanzamiento de jabalina, Muriel Coneo en 1500 metros, y María Alejandra Idrobo, quien sorprendió en los 100 metros planos. Además, Lina Flórez y Briggite Merlano ganaron plata y bronce, respectivamente, en los 100 metros con vallas, en tanto que Rafith Rodríguez fue bronce en los 1500 metros. En ciclismo de pista, Colombia tuvo un cierre de ensueño, gracias a Fabián Puerta, que confirmó que ese el subcampeón mundial del keirin y se colgó el oro, así como Fernando Gaviria, que coronó el oro en el ómnium, escoltado por Juan Esteban Arango, que fue plata.
