The Directory has been produced by the Children & Young Person's Information Service (CYPIS) through a joint project by the Young People's Partnership (YPP) and the 14-19 Network, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government. It has been produced with the help of other organisations including: Penarth Youth Project CLIC Online Young People's Partnership (YPP) 14-19 Network Vale Learning Network Sports Development Unit (Vale of Glamorgan Council) Libraries Service (Vale of Glamorgan Council) Vale Volunteer Bureau Barry College Learning & Development Directorate (Vale of Glamorgan Council) The aim is to provide a comprehensive source of information on all services and organisations that are accessible to young people, aged 11-25 years, and living in the Vale of Glamorgan. It is appropriate for use by young people themselves, carers of young people and professionals working with young people. -

Election to Fellowship | Election Cycle 2015/16 Guidance Notes for Proposers and Candidates Proposers and Candidates are advised that: 1. The Candidate must be nominated by TWO Fellows: a Lead Proposer and a Seconding Proposer. A list of current Fellows is appended. 2. In order to help correct the under-representation of women in the Fellowship, Fellows are permitted to act as the Lead Proposer for three NEW candidates only each election cycle. However, the nomination of female candidates is exempt from this restriction. 3. All nominations must include: a completed Summary Statement of Recommendation (to include the Candidate’s name, the text of the Statement, the Lead Proposer’s name and signature, and the name of the Seconding Proposer; a completed Summary Curriculum Vitae for the Candidate (to be signed by both the Candidate and the Lead Proposer); and one completed Seconding Proposer Form. 4. These, together with Referees’ reports (see paragraph 12, below), are the only documents that will be used by the Society in considering the nomination. No unsolicited additional materials, references or letters of support will be accepted as part of the nomination. It is therefore imperative that all the relevant sections of the documents are completed as fully as possible. 5. It is the overall responsibility of the Lead Proposer to formulate and present the case for election and to collate all of the relevant forms for submission to the Society. The Lead Proposer must complete the Summary Statement of Recommendation and the Summary Curriculum Vitae; the Seconding Proposer is responsible for completing a Seconding Proposer’s Form and sending it to the Lead Proposer in electronic form (WORD, pdf or scanned). -

Annual Report 2012 - 2013 Wales Higher Education Libraries Forum WHELF (Wales Higher Education Libraries Forum) is a collaborative group of all the higher education libraries in Wales, together with the National Library of Wales and the Open University. It is chaired by the Chief Executive and Librarian of the National Library of Wales and its members include Directors of Information Services and Heads of Library Services. WHELF actively promotes the work of higher education libraries in Wales and provides a focus for the development of new ideas and services. WHELF’s mission is to promote collaboration in library and information services, seek cost benefits for shared and consortial services, encourage the exchange of ideas, provide a forum for mutual support and help facilitate new initiatives in library, archives and information service provision. Benefits of WHELF • Raises the profile and value of services and developments in Welsh HE library, archives and information services in our own institutions, in Wales and beyond; • Influences policy makers and funders on matters of shared interest; • Provides cost benefits with regard to shared services, collaborative deals and service developments; • Implements collaborative services and developments for the mutual benefit of member institutions and their users; • Works with other organisations, sectors and domains in support of the development of a cooperative library network in Wales and the UK; • Builds on the collaboration, partnership and advocacy role that WHELF has within Wales and -

Library and Information History Newsletter Series 4, no. 2, Summer 2004 The Official Newsletter of the Library and Information History Group, a Special Interest Group of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) Series 4, no. 2, Summer 2004 ISSN 1744-3180 Editor's Introduction Perhaps as I am getting older I am becoming overly pessimistic. But as I sit here gazing out over Cardigan Bay and the iron-age hill fort on Pen Dinas, I am wondering what the future holds for academic library history research in the UK. What really worries me is what has happened to the input from the former departments of library studies? As more and more of them move away from any genuine engagement with the history of libraries and associated subject areas, and rush towards the new dawn of information systems, or information/knowledge management, where is the next generation of academic library history researchers going to come from? Look at the report from the ‘Libraries and the Working Classes etc’ Conference held in Leeds in June (pp.15-17), and apart from the power house of Leeds Metropolitan University’s School of Information Management, spot the new blood from the other ‘old library schools’? I am well aware that first class work has been and is being done by academics and researchers in departments of English, History, Politics and Architecture for instance, and it is very encouraging to see that other subject areas have begun to realise the importance of historical studies of libraries within their disciplines. But, such academics may well be isolated in those departments, their interest in library history fleeting and confined to one specific topic, or only one aspect of their research interests. -

No declarations of interest were received. 52 : MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING 4 DECEMBER 2014 Consideration of this item was deferred until the next meeting. 53 : RECEIPT OF PETITION - RADYR LIBRARY The Chairperson welcomed Zoe Pearce to the meeting. Ms Pearce was invited to present a petition of 1384 signatories. The petition strongly urged Cardiff Council to reconsider the proposal to withdraw public funding from Radyr Library. A written statement supporting the petition was also tabled. Ms Pearce made a number of further supporting remarks. The Chairperson thanked Ms Pearce for attending. Ms Pearce was advised that the petition was noted and would be given to the relevant Cabinet Member. 54 : 2015/2016 BUDGET PROPOSALS The Committee received a report providing an overview of those sections of the Cabinet’s 2015/16 Budget Proposals that relate to service areas within the remit of the Committee. Members were invited to seek clarification on the budget proposals and to receive evidence from relevant stakeholders before passing observations, comments and recommendations to the Cabinet as part of the budget consultation process. The report provided details of the Cabinet’s budget proposals for consultation, including details of the mechanisms used to consult with citizens and stakeholders. -

Library and Information History Newsletter The Official Newsletter of the Library and Information History Group, a Special Interest Group of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) Series 4, no. 1, Spring 2004 Editor's Introduction Never ask a Committee! As you can see from the cover and the front page of this issue we have changed the name of the publication to Library and Information History Newsletter in line with the change of name of the CILIP Group. Being a democratic sort of guy I asked the Group Committee how I should continue with the numbering of the periodical, given this change of name, and in stereotypical committee decision-making fashion I received almost as many different solutions as I received e-mail answers! So, I have taken it upon myself, i.e. blame me and not the Committee, to begin a new series, series 4, with the new name, whilst also noting that the new title officially continues the old Library History Newsletter. I hope the new Newsletter will be as generally well-received as before, and do not forget that if you have any items that you feel would fit into the various categories I regularly adopt, then PLEASE let me have them. I am particularly desirous of receiving more reports from relevant conferences, seminars, courses, even exhibitions that members have attended, no matter how brief. The James G Ollé Scholarship 2003/4 The Library and Information History Group of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals funds an annual scholarship of £500 to improve the level of activity in library history.
