With the roll-out of LTE and LTE- Advanced we are seeing data rates to the device increasing to tens of Mbps. Eventually, data rates are expected to surpass 100 Mbps for 4G networks. Even though 5G is not defined yet, it is expected to reach 1 Gbps. The trend here is obvious and it poses a serious question with respect to the viability of radio technology such as Wi-Fi, especially public Wi-Fi. One technology that offers the data rate capacity to eventually complement 5G and replace traditional Wi-Fi is Li-Fi.
