ANGLIAN BUS TAKES FIRST MAN ECOCITYs operator hails gas as ‘fuel of the future’ Swindon 16.11.2012

Anglian Bus in Beccles has taken delivery of the first six of 13 new MAN EcoCity biogas-powered buses for its new ‘146’ -Beccles- service. The East Anglian operator conducted an extensive feasibility study MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd. and, with subsidy from the Green Bus Fund, has calculated its initial Frankland Road Blagrove investment will be paid back in just 2½ years. Swindon, Wiltshire, Anglian Bus’s new low-entry version of the MAN EcoCity maximises the SN5 8YU 0044+ 1793 448000 model’s seating potential to 43. The company’s new 146 service runs www.mantruckandbus.co.uk primarily along the A146 at half-hour intervals commencing at 6.15am and Marketing Communications terminating at 7.00pm. Manager Martin Pickering Andrew Pursey, Managing Director at Anglian Bus, has become a Press Office passionate advocate of MAN’s CNG drive system, “I’m convinced it’s the fuel Halls of the future,” he said, “and early signs of significant cost savings for Anglian High Silver House High Street Bus are very positive.” Holt Anglian Bus first viewed the MAN EcoCity product at EuroBus Expo 2010, NR25 6BN 0044+ 1263 715900 and becoming one of the first operators to trial a RHD demonstrator in 2011. With positive feedback from drivers, passengers and the press, the company Simon Hall 0044+ 7860 246766 [email protected] recognised that ‘gas’ was more than a viable alternative to diesel. Paul O’Malley 0044+ 7860 649658 “Unlike other alternative drive system conversions,” continued Pursey, [email protected]

“MAN’s gas engine is designed from the ground up. As a result, it provides a complete solution rather than a quick fix. Alongside MAN and the Gas Bus Alliance, we did the sums, and it soon became apparent that biogas was the future for Anglian Bus.

“MAN provided a first-class acquisition package too, and the first six vehicles were even delivered three weeks early.” he said.

Although the first six vehicles only entered service on December 3 rd , feedback from passengers has been extremely positive – boosted by Anglian Bus’s high-profile promotion of ‘green’ operation and the inclusion of MAN EcoCity / biogas information leaflets on board each vehicle.
