Attached. 1.2 The name of the Regulated Entity's responsible person. Gary Shipton, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of JPIMedia and Editorial Director of its Sussex titles, is the responsible person for the company. 1.3 A brief overview of the nature of the Regulated Entity. The regulated entity JPIMedia is a local and regional multimedia organisation in the UK as well as being a national publisher through in Scotland, The Scotsman and in Northern Ireland, The Newsletter. We provide news and information services to local and regional communities as well as a national audience through our portfolio of publications and websites - 13 paid-for daily newspapers, and more than 200 other print and digital publications including: paid-for weekly newspapers, free titles, lifestyle magazines together with local news and e-commerce websites. Until November 2019, our portfolio of publications included the national title The I and i-news. The sale of JPIMedia Publications (the legal entity which publishes The i) to DMGT concluded on 29 November 2019. The CMA imposed an initial enforcement order (known as a hold separate period) upon DMGT. During the hold separate period JPIMedia Publications / The i was not a part of the JPIMedia Group. The CMA has now concluded its investigations and has confirmed that the hold separate period may be ended. This allows JPIMedia Publications / The i to become a fully integrated part of DMGT. We continue to set the highest editorial standards by ensuring that our staff are provided with excellent internally developed training services. -

Scottish Newspaper Society Is Grateful for the Opportunity to Respond to Ofcom’S Consultation on the Creation of the New BBC Scotland Channel
17 Polwarth Grove, Edinburgh, EH11 1LY To: Garreth Lodge Content and Media Policy Group, Ofcom, 125 Princes Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4AD. December 14, 2017. Dear Garreth, The Scottish Newspaper Society is grateful for the opportunity to respond to Ofcom’s consultation on the creation of the new BBC Scotland channel. As you may know, the SNS represents the interests of the publishers of some 94 daily and weekly titles (listed in the attached appendix), owned by a mixture of major UK organisations and small independent companies. As I said in the response to the BBC’s consultation earlier in the year, the SNS welcomes the new channel and the potential investment in the cultural, creative and media life of Scotland it represents. We hope our titles can continue to be part of, as well as reflect upon, a vibrant indigenous creative sector boosted by stronger indigenous programme-making. However, as we explored in your recent round-table discussion, news publishers are particularly concerned about the scale of the BBC’s plans for news and the inevitable impact a £6m increase in the budget of one already significant organisation will have on others providing similar services in what is a small market. As the BBC’s recent submission to Ofcom showed, it has spoken to senior Scottish newspaper industry representatives and says it accepts that steps should be taken to avoid “adverse impact on fair and effective competition”. While we welcome the extent to which the BBC has taken note of our concerns, particularly in Annex 2 of their submission, they have been noted but then dismissed and we are not mollified by their assurances that they do not intend to compete with the services provided by SNS members. -

Your Committee has asked for my comments on the petitioners’ request that the Scottish Parliament cease to stock or sell the Scottish Sun while it retains the Page 3 feature and the petitioners argue this is contrary to the Parliament’s Equalities Framework. Your Committee has also asked for details of how many copies of this publication are stocked and sold and the locations the publication is displayed. This information, together with details of other newspapers is enclosed with this letter. I have discussed your request with the SPCB. The Corporate Body recognises the strength of feeling on this petition and notes that the Parliament has debated the wider issue of Page 3 by way of a Member’s debate in November last year which garnered cross party support. In terms of the availability of the Scottish Sun, two copies are supplied to the Parliament each day for sale at the coffee bar in the Garden Lobby, along with the other newspapers outlined in the enclosure to this letter.
