If Kwame Kilpatrick's Story Was Made Into a Movie, Who Would Be Cast? 8/6/13 2:54 PM If Kwame Kilpatrick's story was made into a movie, who would be cast? 8/6/13 2:54 PM If Kwame Kilpatrick's story was made into a movie, who would be cast? Aaron Foley | [email protected] By Aaron Foley | [email protected] Follow on Twitter on June 15, 2011 at 2:25 PM, updated June 15, 2011 at 2:37 PM So, WDIV had this interesting bit about Kwame Kilpatrick allegedly shopping around his autobiography to Hollywood producers about making the story into a big-budget film. Wayne County prosecutors can only hope that they can cash in on those box-office receipts if this pans out. Local 4 reports that Kilpatrick's team is looking to start production after he's released from prison. File photos Let's play fantasy casting director: Who would play Top row: Kwame Kilpatrick, Kym Worthy, Carlita Kilpatrick, Carolyn Kilpatrick in the film? And, taking it a step further, Cheeks Kilpatrick, Norman Yatooma. Bottom row: Craig Robinson, Mo'Nique, Nia Long, Cicely Tyson, Michael Imperioli who would play the other cast of characters in the former Detroit mayor's life? Here's our suggestions -- and you can add yours in the comment section below. 1. Craig Robinson as Kwame Kilpatrick: Same build, same age, same looks -- and they both have criminal records. While we know about all of Kilpatrick's misdealings, the "Hot Tub Time Machine" funnyman has a rap sheet of his own: Drug possession and drinking and driving. Other suggestions: Morris Chestnut, Idris Elba. 2. Mo'Nique as Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy: The Academy Award-winning actress showed she had dramatic chops in "Precious." Playing the relentless prosecutor could be another highlight on her resume. Other suggestion: Viola Davis, Pam Grier. 3. Nia Long as Carlita Kilpatrick: Tough casting on this one, as there's plenty of actresses who can fill the role of the supportive political wife. But Long stands out since she herself has stuck by her man in tough situations. Other suggestions: Taraji P. Henson, Mary J. Blige. http://blog.mlive.com/entertainment/detroit_impact/print.html?entry=/2011/06/if_kwame_kilpatricks_story_was.html Page 1 of 3 If Kwame Kilpatrick's story was made into a movie, who would be cast? 8/6/13 2:54 PM 4. Cicely Tyson as Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick. Because you have this: ...and then you have this: http://blog.mlive.com/entertainment/detroit_impact/print.html?entry=/2011/06/if_kwame_kilpatricks_story_was.html Page 2 of 3 If Kwame Kilpatrick's story was made into a movie, who would be cast? 8/6/13 2:55 PM There's no competition here. Other suggestions: Dionne Warwick. 5. Michael Imperioli as Attorney Norman Yatooma. Just so you "Detroit 1-8-7" fans can see Imperioli back in Detroit again. Other suggestions: Russell Crowe, Tom Gores. Let's take it a step further with some other Detroit notables who might show up in the flick, shall we? 6. Bill Cobbs (also known as the old black man who shows up randomly in seemingly every other film) as Bernard Kilpatrick. Cobbs' specialty is dispensing advice to the lead character in the film -- as Bernard did with son, Kwame. Other suggestions: Bill Cosby, Clifton Powell. File photos Top row: Jermaine Jackson, Tasha Smith, Nicole Ari Parker, Morgan 7. Nicole Ari Parker as Ex-Chief of Staff Freeman, Bill Cobbs. Bottom row: Robert Bobb, Monica Conyers, Christine Beatty, Sam Riddle, Bernard Kilpatrick Christine Beatty: We saw how sexy Parker could be when she steamed it up with Boris Kodjoe on the "Soul Food" TV series. Given the nature of Beatty and Kilpatrick's relationship, we think Parker can bring that same kind of spice to this flick. Other suggestions: Jada Pinkett Smith, Thandie Newton, Jasmine Guy with lots of makeup. 8. Tasha Smith as Former Councilwoman Monica Conyers: I feel like Tyler Perry should pay me royalties if he ends up taking the reins of this film. Smith is used to playing brash, loud-talking and assertive characters, so stepping into Conyers' shoes shouldn't be a stretch. Other suggestions: Regina King, Regina Hall. 9. Jermaine Jackson as former DPS Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb: And then Rhonda Walker can report on Jackson's journey back to Motown. Other suggestions: Bill Cosby, since they're such good friends. 10. Morgan Freeman as Sam Riddle: A no-brainer. Other suggestions: If only we could create some type of Samuel L. Jackson-Morgan Freeman hybrid in a cloning machine... © 2013 MLive.com. PROFILES DECEMBER 19 & 26, 2016 ISSUE VIOLA DAVIS’S CALL TO ADVENTURE How the star of “Fences” and “How to Get Away with Murder” got away from her difficult past. By John Lahr “I had a call to adventure, a call to live life bigger than myself,” Davis said. Photograph by Awol Erizku for The New Yorker n January 25, 2009, a jubilant Meryl Streep stood before a gala crowd at the O Screen Actors Guild Awards, in Los Angeles, having just won an award for her role in “Doubt,” the flm adaptation of John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize- winning play about sexual abuse, race, and the Catholic Church. Clutching her statuette, Streep gave a shout-out to the rest of the cast. When she got to Viola Davis—who had earned her frst Academy Award nomination for her performance as the mother of an African-American boy a priest is accused of abusing—Streep saluted her colleague as “gigantically gifted,” then threw up her hands. “My God!” she said. “Somebody give her a movie!” The industry seems to have listened. Davis—“a newcomer at forty-fve,” as Streep later joked—has made twenty-one flms since then. Not all her roles have been large or central to the narrative arc, but, as Aibileen Clark, the maid who helps expose the folly of the white Mississippi matrons she serves, in “The Help”(2011), she was a popular success and gained a second Academy Award nomination. “No one had ever akst me what it felt like to be me,” Aibileen says at the end of the flm.
