Brenneke of America, L.P. It is shockingly reasonable in price, comparable to mass-produced Foster-type slugs, but much higher in quality and offering superior performance. Unlike most sabots that trade power for accuracy, the massive frontal area of the TOPAS®—equal to a 16-gauge slug—delivers a substantial shock to a game animal. It leaves the muzzle packing 1919 ft. lbs. of energy at 1673 feet per second. It is still traveling at 1109 fps at 100 yards, delivering 843 ft. lbs. of energy; enough to stop any deer. The 2/3 ounce TOPAS® slug has a flat trajectory, and accuracy is outstanding. It is capable of two-inch, five-shot groups at 40 yards, and is suitable for use in rifled or smoothbore shotgun barrels having any choke. The name “TOPAS” is an acronym for “Top Accuracy and Speed.” It is pronounced like, and shares its color with, the topaz semi-precious stone. It also gives a nod to the 1969 espionage movie of the same name, directed by Alfred Hitchcock—known for his shocking endings. The TOPAS® is designed for hunters wishing to reliably stop deer-size game at reasonable distances without spending a fortune on ammunition. Wilhelm Brenneke invented the modern shotgun slug in Germany in 1898, and his descendants carry on his insistence on accuracy, performance, and ethical, humane hunting practices in the company he founded.
