4 Taiwan Currency - the (NT$)

Five denominations in paper money and five in coins. Paper money comes in NT$2000, NT$1000, NT$500, NT$200, and NT$100 denominations. Coins come in NT$50, NT$20, NT$10, NT$5 and NT$1 denominations. NT$50 NT$5 NT$1

5 Transportation

MRT Taoyuan Airport Line - MRT Taoyuan Airport Line links up Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and its surrounding cities. A ride from Airport to the is NT$160. There are two types of trains, Express Train and Commuter Train. Express Train is purple and Commuter Train is blue. For further information about Taoyuan Airport Line , please refer to p.15 TRTC - The MRT's many trains and its seamless bus transfer make up Taipei's convenient transport system. Bus – Routes cover almost all of Taipei city. Railway – Taiwan’s trains go through big cities and small towns. YouBike – YouBike provides rental services throughout the city. The user may rent one bike in a place and return it in another. Easy Card – Easy Card is a contactless electronic fare-card that may be used at MRT, bus, parking lots, or partnership stores. The customer may top up the card in all MRT stations and convenience stores.

Taxi– Can be hailed on the street or summoned by either phone or apps. In Taipei, the first 1.25km is NT$70. From that point on, every additional 200m is NT$5. Night cab charges NT$20 more per ride. Cross-town long-distance taxi does not charge by the meter. Please discuss the fee with your taxi driver first.

Suitable for one-day visitors who intend to use the MRT to see the most of Taipei 2. Effective on the day of purchase • 24hr Pass NT$180 1. The ticket is valid for unlimited travel on the Taipei Metro within 24 hours from the first use

8 EasyCard

• How to buy an EasyCard: The cards are sold outright without any deposit or disposable value, with invoices issued. The cards are available at all Taipei Metro information counters, convenience stores (i.e. 7-ELEVEN, FamilyMart, Hi-Life, OK mart) and EasyCard Service Centers.

• EasyCard Refunds: 1. EasyCards can be refunded at all metro station information counters, the EasyCard Corporation, and the EasyCard Corporation Service Center. Foreign residents can get a refund by using a self- addressed, prepaid, EasyCard Corporation envelope, available at commissioned convenience stores. 2. If the EasyCard has been used more than 5 times and was purchased more than 3 months ago, the NT$100 deposit will be refunded as well as the remaining credit. If the EasyCard has been used less than 5 times or was purchased less than 3 months ago, an additional service fee of NT$20 will be charged.

• How do I add value to the EasyCard? There are three ways to add value to your EasyCard: 1. By using the Automatic Value-Adding Machines (EasyCard Value-Adding Machines are installed at all Taipei Metro stations and commissioned car parks. ) 2. Adding value at the Information Counter at any metro station 3. Adding value at commissioned convenience stores

9 Weather in Taipei in November

Weather: The weather is cool. It is one of the best times of the year to visit Taiwan, with mostly sunny and pleasant weather and little rain.

Clothing: During the day it is warm. A T-shirt or a long- sleeve shirt is suitable. For early morning and evening, a coat is needed. If you plan to visit mountainous areas, a coat and a sweater would be necessary.

10 How to buy Prepaid SIM Cards at Taoyuan Airport

• In Taiwan you must register for a SIM card using your passport. • There are three main mobile companies which sell cards at the airport, Chunghwa, Taiwan Mobile, and FarEast Tone. You can find them at telecommunication service center. • For prices and different plans, please refer to page 12. • Most plans come with unlimited data and some credit for voice calls!
