2. Generic description of main activity:
Building and civil engineering contractor.
3. Main disciplines:
Sir Robert McAlpine is a leading UK building and civil engineering company. Committed to the highest standards of health and safety, quality and sustainability, we deliver outstanding projects, which meet and exceed clients’ expectations.
Notable projects include the Olympic Stadium, O2 Arena, Emirates Stadium, Eden Project, Cabot Circus in Bristol, M74 Completion in Glasgow and Milton Court in London.
A family-owned company with a wealth of experience accumulated over more than 145 years, we recognise that understanding our clients’ core values and aspirations is key to our success.
We work with clients across all the major market sectors, tailoring our design, construction, technical and management capabilities to meet their evolving needs.
4. Is it more realistic that students will be required to be flexible in where they undertake vacation experience? (If so please state any allowances that will in principle be available for living costs – specific values are not required in this statement)
Vacation employment can be anywhere on the UK mainland. Students need to be flexible on the location of their summer vacation employment even though efforts are made to place them as close to their home address as possible. In addition to a salary, those students living away from their home address will receive a Lodging Allowance of £169.42 per week to assist with the cost of their living accommodation and those students living at home will be reimbursed their home to site fares up to maximum of £114.00 per week. 5. Is there a preference (or stipulation) for students in particular years of study?
No.
6. Approximately how many sponsorships will the company be offering in one year?
Up to three.
7. What value will the sponsorship be (at least £1,000)?
Year 1 - £1,500
Year 2 - £1,600
Year 3 - £1,700
Year 4 - £1,800
8. Please state any other specific requirements not covered by the above (if you have policies regarding employment upon graduation or repayment of sponsorship money this should be made clear to applicants – see also scheme guidelines).
Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd is a contracting organisation and virtually all our students will be based on site, not in a design office. Most of the work will be outdoors, working alongside the site engineers as part of a project based management team.
Students should be aware of the type of working environment that will be experienced with a contractor as opposed to that of a consultant.
Subject to market conditions, sponsored students who have met the company’s expectations are normally offered graduate employment during their final year of study subject to the successful completion of their degree. If an employment offer is made, students can decline the offer but will only receive half the normal sponsorship monies for the final year of their studies.
