Background Agnes Chavez is an artist, educator and curriculum developer. She has been working as a professional artist since 1986, exhibiting nationally and Internationally. Throughout those years she worked as an art teacher in schools and community centers for children. In 1996 she developed SUBE, an innovative program for teach- ing language to children utilizing art, music and games, and started a business to develop, market and sell this new curriculum. In 2002 she expanded her language program to include Digital Storytelling workshops and an internet cultural exchange program connecting Spain and Mexico to classrooms in the U.S. Ms. Chavez leads International workshops for these programs and continues to develop innovative approaches that educate on preserving language, and ecological diversity.

Projects Highlands University-Millicent Rogers Museum video collage exhibit, 1995 For this project Agnes Chavez lived in the Rainforest region of Costa Rica for 6 months gathering footage and de- veloping the concept sketches. She then did an Artist-in-residency program for 3 months at the Highlands University ,Computer Graphics department, where she digitized and manipulated all the images. The images were then assem- bled into video collage/constructions and exhibited as a one-person show at the Millicent Rogers Museum.

Logic Dream Productions, Inc. (LDP), 1996-to date (new name, Sube, Inc) Agnes Chavez formed this company in 1996 when she created a new language model called SUBE Language Learn- ing thru Art, Music and Games. The company continues to develop new products for this program and markets the product throughout the country through the web This unique product is in its 13th year and continues to gain national recognition.

LDP/National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) collaboration, 1999-2002 An internet cultural exchange program called SubeConnects was founded. This project connected elementary class- rooms between the U.S. and Spain/Mexico via a web-based curriculum to provide opportunities for real world ex- change and dialogue between children. She forged a partnership with the NHCC and the BLM to develop the web site, provide technical training and support the exchange.

LDP/National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) collaboration, 2003-to date The SubeConnects project evolved into the Digital Storytelling Project. Agnes Chavez discovered the new medium of Digital Storytelling. A 3-4 minute video clip that incorporates snapshots, music, video and the spoken word to create a powerful personal story, told by ordinary people. Agnes Chavez with the continued support of the NHCC and the BLM, provide 3 day trainings on making a digital story, to people with little or no computer experience, and with a focus on rural and/or low-income communities. The purpose of this project is to empower people to tell their story and provide technical training that they can apply in other areas of their lives.

This project is currently on hold pending funding for the development of the software for the gameboard.
