At The Disco Zespół grający pop punk, pochodzący z Las Vegas w Nevadzie.

  • Is Stage-Gay Queerbaiting? the Politics of Performative Homoeroticism in Emo Bands
1 Is stage-gay queerbaiting? The politics of performative homoeroticism in emo bands Abstract Queerbaiting is a fast-expanding topic in media and cultural studies. In 2015, this author attempted to define queerbaiting as a strategy by which writers and networks attempt to gain the patronage of queer viewers via the suggestion of queer relationships, before denying and laughing of the possibility. Joseph Brennan’s 2019 edited volume has greatly developed the concept of queerbaiting to include a range of meanings, from media industries’ pledges of allegiance to LGBT causes which are not delivered upon, to courting queer viewers via paratexts that imply queer relationships which don’t exist in text. Applying the concept of queerbaiting to bands complicates these ideas, as the ‘truth’ or ‘delivery’ of queer representation lies not in a fictional text but the public persona of real performers. Through an examination of stage-gay, the notorious practice of queer performativity onstage by straight performers in the emo music subculture, I investigate how a restrictive notion of ‘truth’ in discussions of queerbaiting can actually close off the very possibilities of transformation and open-ended configurations of sexuality that Doty’s formulation of queerness promised. Emo bands are the natural case study here, as emo is an offshoot of hardcore and punk that sought to complicate the hegemonic masculinities that dominated those genres, both in its musical and lyric content, and the public and paratextual performativity of its artists. 2 Is stage-gay queerbaiting? • "Girls/Girls/Boys" Panic! at the Disco Panic!
Kailee Shollenberger Professor Long Pop & Protest Gender "Girls/Girls/Boys" Panic! At the Disco Panic! At the Disco first emerged at the peak of the emo movement during the mid 2000s. The band was created by two high school friends, drummer Spencer Smith and guitarist Ryan Ross, who grew tired of covering other artists, specifically blink-182. They recruited guitarist and vocalist Brendon Urie and bassist Brent Wilson. Together the new band caught the attention of Decaydance Records and became the first band to be signed to Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz’s label. Their 2005 debut, “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out”, topped the charts with “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”. Wilson was fired while Panic! was on the Nintendo Fusion Tour, leading to the addition of Jon Walker to the group. Eventually, Walker and Ross parted ways with the band to begin their own music career as a duo. Leaving Urie and Smith shorthanded, they filled their lineup with Ian Crawford and Dallon Weekes. By 2016 Brendon Urie had taken the wheel and directed the sound Panic!’s music from emo driven rock to psychedelic pop and electronic beats. Brendon Urie has been a longtime ally of the LGBTQ community and has come out as pansexual. Panic! At the Disco’s song “Girls/Girls/Boys” explores the idea that “love is not a choice” and the concept of living freely (1). Urie has publicly stated that the inspiration for the song was his sexual experience with a bisexual girl and her girlfriend when he was sixteen.

Jan-Feb 2016 Good luck to Joshua Musano, Trevor Harvey, Thomas Porco, Adam Apostol, and Christian Hete as they go on to represent our school at the annual Tri-State Spelling Bee on March 13. Photo by Mrs. Goldstein Round Two Spelling Champs by Matthew Hollay [grade 8] February 17th was the second round of the DDMS spelling bee. Twenty people competed, and only five could move on to the third round against four other schools. To relieve stress, the contestants participated in a practice round. In the practice round, it didn’t matter whether or not contestants spelled their word right. Fifteen out of twenty contestants spelled their word right. In round one, many contestants were nervous. Even so, most were not eliminated. Only four contestants were out with the words: sonar, granola, torrent, and worrywart. In round two, even less contestants were eliminated, and the words were only getting more and more difficult. Two contestants were defeat- ed with the words pedigree and bewilder. Just like round three, very few were eliminated as the words grew stronger and stronger. The two contestants were bested by the words hypnotic and pomposity, which obviously means to be like a possum— right. Sixth Grade Needs to Take By the end of round five, the numbers of contestants were dwindling, and the words were getting to the point where none of the contestants Care of Their Wing knew what they meant. Three of the five people eliminated between by Andre Phillips [grade 6] round four and round five were taken out by the words cartouches, ad- As a sixth grader, I think we should take hesion, and olfactory.
