Learn the tradition of Dancing in a series of FREE classes at Cameron House led by master artist Corey Chan of Kei Lun Martial Arts.

Fridays, April 18th, 25th, and May 2nd, 7-8:30pm plus Saturday, May 3rd performance, 1-2:30pm

Immerse yourself in the dragon the way people have done for over a thousand years! Engage in a community building cultural tradition. Dragon dancing requires stamina, provides good physical training, incorporates lifting parts of the dragon up to 15 pounds. Anyone is welcome to participate at any point in the workshop, however the more consistent you are, the more beneficial it is to your comprehension of the dance. Please wear comfortable sneakers and clothes you can move in.

Dragon Dance Mythical are regarded as the king of the beasts and are the most revered creatures in . Unlike their European counterparts, dragons have always been associated with goodness and positivity in . They are composite animals made up of the best features of several real animals—much like a good team is comprised of different members who excel in specialized tasks.

Corey Chan has been involved in the dragon dance since 1998 when he and his teammates were selected to perform in the staged production The Celestial Dragon. He studied under master choreographer/dancer Yao Yong. After the series of performances with Yao’s ensemble, the members of Kei Lun Martial Arts continued to independently perform the dragon dance at other events including corporate gatherings, weddings, dragon boat festivals, halftime shows, etc. Chan has continually researched the dragon dance and coached other dragon dance teams in Honolulu, Oakland, and Pittsburgh. He is currently documenting his teaching method to enable others to learn and teach this exciting and energetic part of Chinese history and culture.
