Sept. 13, 2001 ­ Hyundai Motor Company is matching up with Johan Cruyff, an all time legend of world football, to promote the company’s role as official partner in the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea­Japan.

For the next two years, Johan Cruyff will take Hyundai’s message as the official 2002 FIFA World Cup Automotive Partner and a world class automaker to football fans around the world, confirming HMC as a World Class football supporter.

Johan Cruyff, as HMC’s soccer ambassador, will be used in relevant corporate communications, activities and to help HMC communicate with their target customers.

Ambassador image The Ambassador image will be used globally in all forms of media including outdoor advertising, point of sale material in dealerships, direct­marketing campaigns, on­line, poster campaigns and print advertising.

It is also hoped Cryuff will make several appearances around the world for Hyundai Motor at events such as major motor show, regional office visits, press conference for Hyundai Motor in the run­up to the World Cup and at key matches during the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

This match­up will help to align the Hyundai brand as a major supporter of football and develop an even stronger relationship with the target audience around the World. It will also allow HMC to develop and build a stronger relationship with the media and it’s global distributor network.

Johan Cruyff was a key figure in the golden age of Dutch football during the , scoring 33 goals in 48 games for Holland. Cruyff smoothly transformed himself into a provider and creator later in his career.

As a player, his footballing intelligence was crucial in the development and implementation of "" and he successfully transferred his tactical awareness to management with Ajax and , his old clubs. He won a hat­trick of European Cups with Ajax, the World Clubs' Cup and was three times European Footballer of the Year.
