Today’s Game Royal Wootton Bassett Town F. C. Good afternoon and welcome to the Gerard Buxton Ground for this Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division fixture against Brackley Town Saints. A special warm welcome to our visitors who visit us today sat top of the league table after an excellent start to the season which has seen them win nine of their would like to thank our opening twelve league fixtures. We trust they enjoy their brief stay with us this afternoon and we wish them a safe journey back to Northamptonshire. sponsors for this season:

Our record against Brackley Town Saints is a pretty good one and we have yet to suffer a defeat against them having won three and drawn four of our seven games to date against today’s opponents. The four Senior Section draws include the game between the two sides four weeks ago when a goal from Mark James put us Senior Teams Shirt Sponsors - Vacant ahead only for Brackley came back to equalise and share the points. We know we are in for a tough game today but hopefully 5pm tonight our unbeaten record will be intact. First Team Man of the Match Awards - New Calley Arms First Team Away Travel - Wootton Bassett Service Station Westbury United Whilst it was disappointing to go out of the prestigious Wiltshire Senior Cup at the First Round stage on Tuesday night I understand that the lads put in a really good performance and gave a Westbury United Ladies Team – Aftech and TWB Scrap Metal and Ridgeway side, who have won all eight of their Toolstation Premier League games this season, a real good run for Leisure Centre in Partnership with Nuffield Health their money in an entertaining game. In the end we were beaten by a late winner but pushed the strong Westbury side all the way. Just a shame that we had to meet one of the top sides in the First Round but Development Team after match hospitality provided by that is just the luck of the draw. With just the Floodlit Cup and Supplementary Cup to come now it looks www.snackandsandwich.co.uk like we will have an early finish to the season in 2018-19 unless we can make progress in those two cup competitions.

Development Side Youth Section Today sees the Development side make the short journey to Purton for a First Round Fountain Trophies Under 18 Blue – EPOC Properties Cup game, Purton will go into the game in a confident mood after their giant-killing win over Bemerton Under 16 Blue - EPOC Properties & Clements Building Contractors Heath Harlequins, a side two levels higher up in the pyramid, in the Wiltshire Senior Cup last Saturday. Hopefully Steve and Mike will get a good response from their young side after last weeks disappointing Under 16 Yellow - Barnes Coaches mauling at Kintbury Rangers. Under 15 Yellow - C.S. Building Services Under 15 Blue - Railston Sunday Side Tomorrow sees the Sunday side make the trip to Croft looking to maintain their 100% winning record this Under 14 Yellow - Memstar Distribution season. Croft sit just above Bassett in the table having played two games more than us but have lost just Under 14 Blue - J.Rouse & Simplicity once in their opening four league games, so it should be a good test for Danny Groom’s side. Under 13 Blue - Bevirs Solicitors Ladies Team Under 12 Blue - Howard Tenens The Ladies side are also in action tomorrow when they entertain Trowbridge Town here at the Gerard Under 11’s - Homelands Fencing and Landscaping Buxton Ground in the South West Women’s League in what appears to be the first competitive fixture between the two sides. With Bassett looking to make up ground on the leaders having had our fixtures messed around a bit by cup competitions and postponements, it is important that the Ladies continue the Programme Printing & Sponsor form they showed last week in defeating Swindon Town Development. Cats Solutions Congratulations to our Girls With her selection to the Wiltshire County FA's Under 16 Girls squad, Mollie Smith became the fourth girl Advertising board sponsors playing within Royal Wootton Bassett Town's youth section to receive a county call-up. Next up was the first fixture against us where a second half equaliser from James Watts ensured a share of the points after Mark James had given us a 1-0 half time lead. Next up was the First Round of the Bluefin Challenge Cup and at the end of ninety minutes the two sides could not be separated after sharing six goals, Oliver Goddard, Charlie Killie and James Watts with the Brackley goals. The only side to score in extra time were Bishops Cleeve to send Brackley into the Supplementary Cup where they may end up playing ourselves following our defeat to Tuffley. The last four league fixtures coming into today’s game have all been won. Goals from James Hammond, Alex Stott and James Watts gave Brackley a 3-0 home win over neighbours Ardley United. Alex Stott was again amongst the goals in a trip to Flackwell Heath, bagging a brace in a 3-1 win, Ryan Knight coming off the substitute bench to net in injury time. A long midweek trip to the outskirts of Swindon to meet Shrivenham proved a fruitful trip as two goals from Charlie Killie secured all three points. The winning run continued last Saturday as two goals from Ryan Knight and one a piece for James Hammond and Charlie Killie gave Brackley a 4-1 home success over a much improved Tuffley Rovers side. Ryan Knight leads the Brackley scoring chart with eight goals so far this season.

They appeared on course to fail to get on the scoresheet though as McCready pulled off a pair of fantastic saves to tip a curling Powell effort and another Parker free kick that was destined for the top corner around the post. However, they were eventually able to grab a consolation as Allen earned a soft penalty and Parker sent McCready the wrong way. But it was far too little, far too late, with Bassett having wrapped up a fully deserved and impressive win. The first half threatened a cup 1906-07 Swindon Town Royal Wootton Bassett Town 2-3 Westbury United 2006-07 Corsham Town upset as Avebury from Division 2 held the Bassett front line and found time to set up a 1907-08 Devizes Town 2007-08 Melksham Town 1908-09 Swindon Town Reserves Warminster Town 0v3 Shrewton United 2008-09 Highworth Town number of half chances, though none really troubled Rees in the Bassett goal. Bassett for Trowbridge Town Wroughton 1-4 Devizes Town* 2009-10 Calne Town 1909-10 Salisbury City 2010-11 Bemerton Heath Harl. their part didn't seem to have the urgency about them required in a cup game, though they 1910-11 Warminster Town Chippenham Town bye 2011-12 Calne Town 1911-12 38th Brigade RFA Salisbury bye 2012-13 Melksham Town did create a number of chances, Frost sending a couple of volleys just wide and Damon 1912-13 Calne Town 2013-14 Melksham Town 1913-14 3rd Wilts Regiment Swindon Supermarine bye 2014-15 Highworth Town York miskicking with just the keeper to beat. 1919-20 Swindon Town Trowbridge Town bye 2015-16 Melksham Town 1920-21 Swindon Victoria 2016-17 Swindon Supermarine The first half pep talk Bassett received from manager Woolford was no more than they 1921-22 Trowbridge Town * Game switched to Devizes following agreement of clubs & FA 2017-18 Chippenham Town 1922-23 Salisbury City deserved, and they certainly came out more determined in the second half. However, it 1923-24 Spencers Second Round 1924-25 Chippenham Town was Avebury who had the first opportunity to open the scoring when 10 minutes into the 1925-26 Trowbridge Town v 1926-27 Chippenham Town half they were awarded a penalty - Ian Johns looking harshly to have been adjudged to 1927-28 Swindon Corinthians v 1928-29 Chippenham Town v have brought his man down. Rees saved Bassett's blushes by diving to his left to stop the 1929-30 Garrard Athletic 1930-31 Chippenham Town v kick and then smoother the loose ball. This seemed to be the spur Bassett required and .] 1931-32 Westbury United following a number of half chances they took the lead. An Avebury clearance was headed 1932-33 Westbury United v DevizesTown 14 1933-34 Trowbridge Town v SwindonTown 9 back into the box by Harrison and somehow found its way to Hanrahan, his shot slipping 1934-35 Swindon Corinthians v ChippenhamTown 9 1935-36 Swindon Corinthians MelkshamTown 8 through the Avebury keeper's arms. Avebury were by now beginning to tire and Bassett 1936-37 Swindon Victoria v 1937-38 Trowbridge Town TrowbridgeTown 8 were finding more space and time, though they failed to add to the score until 10 minutes 1938-39 Purton Purton 7 1945-46 Salisbury Corinthians Quarter Finals HighworthTown 6 from time. Corsham responded quickly and Rees had to be alert to save a shot 1975-76 Pinehurst SwindonSupermarine 1 1976-77 Corsham Town SwindonGWRCorinthians 1 that came through a ridge of players. Bassett should have increased their lead when a 1977-78 Melksham Town 1978-79 Devizes Town SwindonWanderers 1 cross from Walker was only half cleared and fell to Harrison, who completely missed his 1979-80 Downton FC WollenSports 1 1980-81 Downton FC shot. 1981-82 Avebury 1982-83 Penhill 1983-84 Amesbury Town Corsham came out for the second half determined and the first 15 minutes proved their 1984-85 Calne Town best period of the game. A combination of some alert keeping by Rees and good defensive work from Bowden kept them at bay and allowed Bassett to regain control. Hanrahan wasted a good opportunity and then headed just over before Bassett increased their lead. Damon York had beaten a couple of players and run on into the box when he was pulled down by the keeper for Bassett once again to be awarded a penalty, and Bowden, shot it confidently home. This sort of pitch never allows good football to be played and can be a great leveller of teams, so Bassett can be reasonably pleased to have come away with the two points. 10
