St. Francis (NY) Terriers 20 Loss Teams in Recent Memory Last Season
The Terriers may have fielded one of the most competitive St. Francis (NY) Terriers 20 loss teams in recent memory last season. St. Francis dropped 14 games by eight points or less, including eight by five or fewer and four in overtime. The tight nature of NEC Predicted Finish: 10th 2007-08 Record: 7-22, 4-14 NEC St. Francis (NY)’s games last season also extended to the team’s victories as six of the Terriers’ seven wins came by five points or less. To refer to St. Francis (NY) as the “new look” Terriers may be some- what of a stretch, but a slew of fresh faces bring renewed optimism to the program, which missed qualifying for the NEC Tournament for just the sec- ond time in the last 18 seasons a year ago. The team’s Achilles’ heel in 2007- 08 was a combination of poor shooting from both the line and three-point range, as well as a failure to deliver the knockout blow. As a result, the Terriers dropped eight conference games (and 14 overall) by eight points or less, including three overtime setbacks over a three-week stretch in January. While St. Francis recovered somewhat down the stretch and had an opportunity to secure a playoff berth on the final day of the regular season, a home loss to local rival Long Island ended a frustrating year in Brooklyn Heights. Determined to changes the team’s fortunes in 2008-09, fourth year head coach Brian Nash’s offseason recruiting efforts reaped dividends with a seven-player bonanza. -

St. Francis (NY) Has Finished Above .500 at Home in Each of St
St. Francis (NY) has finished above .500 at home in each of St. Francis (NY) Terriers the last ten seasons, by far longest streak in the NEC. The Terriers have posted an 86-31 record over the decade at the Pope Center, a 73.5 percent success rate. Robert Mor- NEC Predicted Finish: 8th 2005-06 Record: 10-17, 7-11 NEC ris, which has posted a winning record at home the last five seasons, maintains the second-longest current streak in the conference. In his first year manning the sidelines at St. Francis (NY), head coach Brian Nash was determined to implement a new system, one that placed an emphasis on half court defense and execution within a set offense. To that end, the Brooklyn native spent nearly an entire season mixing and matching lineups and adjusting on the fly in order to find the right combination of players to carry out his game plans. Over the course of the campaign, Nash started 12 players, employed 15 different starting lineups and featured a rotation with 11 players averag- ing at least 13 minutes per contest. A loss on the final day of the regular season cost the Terriers a playoff spot and snapped a streak of 15 consecutive NEC Tournament appearances. In the end, the 2005-06 season was defined by flashes of brilliance (wins over Fairfield and Fordham), tempered by spurts of inconsistency, especially on the offensive end of the floor where St. Francis averaged just 63.7 ppg. While a lucrative recruiting haul should provide the impetus for a quick turnaround, the Terriers have a number of building blocks already in place, starting with former NEC Rookie of the Year Allan Sheppard, a junior swingman. -
St. Francis (NY) Has St
Since the start of the 1997-98 season, St. Francis (NY) has St. Francis (NY) Terriers been the NEC’s toughest team at home. The Terriers are 71-22 (.763) over the last eight years at the Pope Center and have not lost more than four games at home in any NEC Predicted Finish: Tie-5th 2004-05 Record: 13-15, 9-9 NEC single year. There will be a new look on the St. Francis (NY) sidelines this season as Brian Nash takes the reigns of one of the NEC’s flagship programs over the last decade. While the Terriers have shown remarkable consistency by reaching the NEC Tournament 15 consecutive seasons, it is the one mountain the NEC charter member has yet to scale - winning its first conference title - that is Nash’s first and foremost goal. Nash, who served as an assistant coach at Seton Hall the last four seasons, takes over a program loaded with returning talent, but one that will be without the services of its floor general and leader of the Terriers’ freewheeling offense, Tory Cavalieri. A player Nash is keenly familiar with - he led the Terriers to a win over St. John’s and nearly engineered an upset in a one-point setback to Seton Hall last season - Cavalieri was a second team all-NEC performer as a senior and finished his stellar career with 1,196 points, 590 assists and a spot in St. Francis folklore as one of the program’s all- time greats. Likely to be handed the keys to the team in 2005-06 is senior Tristan Smith, who in his first year after transferring from St. -
