2nd August 2018 - Week 2 Term 3 Tackle 7’s Champions Wow! What a day our Tackle 7’s side had yesterday in winning the Golden Bay/ Motueka / Moutere Schools Tackle 7’s champs, with an extra time try against the unbeaten Motueka South team. Victories against Lower Moutere, Mapua and Parklands meant we topped our pool but knew we needed to lift things to beat Motueka South as they had cruised through their pool games comfortably. The kids all played out of their skins in the final with solid tackling, hard running and being so quick to any loose ball. It was definitely their best game. A huge thanks to Kylie and Paris for their great vocal support as well as helping with transport. I didn’t expect to do as well as we did. The games were all hard but we got way better with each game. I was so sore and tired this morning. The final was nerve wracking and we nearly lost it , but Saxon made a try saving tackle and we were able to get the ball and finally score. My best bit was selling about 4 dummies in a row against Upper Moutere. Archie The games were all tough and we had to make lots of tackles and wrestled for the ball heaps. In the final we were scared to miss tackles as we knew we could lose. I was so happy when Teru scored and we had won. Trey School Calendar I think I tackled well and got lots of possession at the break down. The games were all hard. I didn’t want to make any 15th Aug Assembly 2.20pm mistakes in the final and all the players played well, especially 16th Aug Strike Day—to be advised Saxon who was the smallest player at the tournament. The Youth Ambassadors from Motueka High and Golden Bay High School also joined in along with DOC, Project Janszoon and staff from the schools. Helen as our Youth Ambassador leader attends all the trips with the children. The four girls have had some pretty awesome experiences so far this year with more to come. We learnt to identify new birds and plants. We heard or saw 30 birds in our 5 minute check. There were a lot of weka around us coming in and out of the bush. We worked in groups with kids from the two High Schools and they are so easy to get on with. Kynan and Pippa from GBHS used to go to Motupipi School. Emily C An awesome weekend with the ATYA crew mid winter retreat. Young Motupipi troopers did a stirling effort carrying their gear in and out. Lots of learning. Bird listening-saw a penguin surfing- plant learning - fantastic drawings! And team building. As well as a great game of sardines in the dark! Welcome to Motupipi Welcome to our four new entrants Antonio, Phoenix, Summer and Jackson who all started recently in Rm3 with Wendy and Rose. I like playing tennis with the older kids and doing stuff in the classroom. Antonio I’m getting good at learning my words. I like bouncing on the tramp while I call out the words. Playing games at playtime is fun. Jackson I like playing with the princesses. The kids are friendly at school and April is my friend. Summer I like finding water balloons around the school and drawing and reading. Phoenix Phoenix, Summer, Jackson, Antonio Nelson /Tasman Chess Champs On Tuesday, Squire, Ollie, Bella C and Lola travelled to Nelson with Jodie to play in the Nelson Tasman Chess Champs. The team was up against some top competition, with many involved in chess clubs and it being their main sport. The results were Squire 3 wins and a draw, Lola and Ollie 3 wins, Bella C 1 win and 3 draws Jodie was pleased with their efforts but they all felt they needed to play more in order to lift their games. They have decided to start up a Chess Club for any interested students each Friday at lunch break. Staff will be available to help those new to the game. The tournament was awesome. I learnt that I need to pay attention while waiting my turn as I got caught by losing my queen when I shouldn’t have. Bella C I learnt a 5 move checkmate before the tournament but it got blocked each time. The games were all quite tense especially as we had to make sure we pressed the timer each time we finished our move. Lola It was so much fun. I learnt to pay more attention to the other players moves so that I don’t fall into traps or make mistakes. I was pleased with how I went and hope there is another tournament to go to this year. Squire NZEI (New Zealand Educational Institute) members have voted to strike for a whole day on Thursday 16 August. All primary schools in Mohua: Central Takaka School, Motupipi Primary School and Takaka Primary School will be closed for instruction during this strike, so we ask that you keep your children home on this day. Teachers are striking for better pay, a more reasonable workload, and better conditions for your children (such as increased learning support funding and resourcing). Thank you for supporting better conditions in education - both in Golden Bay and across New Zealand. Miniball Miniball started on Tuesday with our Yr 5/6 children playing at GBHS Gym and the Yr 3/4 children at Takaka Primary. Thanks to those parents who have offered to manage the teams, we appreciate your efforts. We played really well especially our passing and intercepting. I got three goals. We have a really good team. Wiri We both scored a goal each, but could have got more but we passed it around the others in the team so everyone managed to score. We did really good for our first game. Taiyo & Ashton S We went OK but I rushed my shots at goal. I’m going to take my time next time and do a bit of shooting practice. Lochie We won 46-16 in our first game and everyone in the team scored. What we did well was pass quickly and move into space to get a pass. We could work on getting the rebounds. Ashton C I enjoyed the game but I need to work on getting into a clear space to get a pass and also pass a bit quicker. All the kids in my team are in Rm1 except for me. Malika Bedwetting Bedwetting is common in children. It can cause a lot of distress for children and families. It can cause children to miss or become distressed over normal events like sleepovers and school camps. Bedwetting happens during sleep. It occurs slightly more often in boys than girls. The child can’t control their bedwetting – it’s not their fault. Bedwetting is not considered an issue until children reach the age of 7. This is a good time to introduce a treatment programme if the child is motivated to do something about it. Most children grow out of bedwetting, although about 1% of adults may still have the occasional problems. There is no universal cause of bedwetting but we know that: Bedwetting runs in families The waking-up response to having a full bladder is not fully developed The child’s bladder cannot hold the amount of wee that they produce overnight The child’s bladder may be twitchy or overactive Restricting fluids in the evening does not help bedwetting Constipation can lead to bedwetting Bedwetting is rarely due to a urine infection or disease. It’s important to be patient and understanding - reassure your child, especially if they are upset. Praise and reward your child for going to the toilet.
