Introduction Hello and a warm welcome to Cleeve Racing’s 2021 Flat Season Ten to Follow. We like to let the early season form settle down a bit before we publish our Ten to Follow guide but we did release the first two of the Ten to Follow before the 2000 and 1000 Guineas. They were not selections for the races as we have picked both of them on the basis of what we expect them to achieve over the course of the season. This guide contains the complete list of the Ten to Follow and we suggest you set them up on a tracker such as https://www.geegeez.co.uk/reports/tracker/ and get email notifications when they are running. The Geegeez tracker is one of the few trackers that gives you the 5 day declartions. We want to wish you the best of luck for the coming season and we hope it is a profitable one for us all! Good luck The team at Cleeve

Thunder Moon

Trainer:- JP O’Brien Sex :- Colt Age 3 (Foaled 1st May 2018) Sire:- Zoffany Owner Mrs Regalado Gonzalez

Thunder Moon is a well-bred Zoffany colt who was last seen finishing third in the Dewhurst on the Rowley mile in October. He burst onto the scene with a bang when he won a Curragh maiden on his debut when he travelled smoothly before bursting through a gap a furlong out showing an impressive turn of foot to put the race to bed and beating a couple of useful, more experienced types to boot. He was snapped up by current connections straight after and I would think they paid a pretty penny for him. Whatever they paid they were handsomely rewarded when he stepped straight up to Group One class in the National Stakes at the Curragh in what has been a particularly good trial in Ireland for our Guineas. He went off the 3rd choice in the betting behind Godolphin’s Master of the Seas and Jesse Harrington’s Luck Vega. It was almost a carbon copy as he travelled smoothly before bursting through a gap late on to win going away in what was a messy race. Interestingly he had both Wembley and St. Mark’s Basilica behind him who were both to turn the form around a month later in the Dewhurst. He had to travel wide in the Dewhurst which was a definite disadvantage, but he again travelled well and he wasn’t given a hard time by Declan McDonagh, certainly not as hard as the front two. To be fair Wembley came from an even worse position and is my idea of the biggest danger to Thunder Moon in the first colts Classic. He has only run over 7 furlongs so he has not proved his stamina over a mile, but he is definitely bred to get the trip being by Zoffany and a Sadlers Wells mare. He looked a bit unfurnished as a two-year-old and I fully expect that he has strengthened up over the winter. All things being equal he will be a challenger for the top mile races for three-year-old colts and may even get a bit further. Joseph O’Brien is in only in the early stages of his training career but has already won some of the world’s top races and Thunder Moon can add to an already impressive list.

Sacred

Trainer:- W Haggis Sex :- Filly Age 3 (Foaled 1st May 2018) Sire:- Exceed and Excel Dam:- Sacre Caroline Owners:- Cheveley Park Stud

Sacred had a busy two-year-old season running 5 times, she won her maiden impressively at Newmarket then immediately stepped up to Group company when running second to Wesley Ward’s Campanelle in a hot Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, she looked the likely winner ½ a furlong out - and traded at a low of 1.12 in running! She was stepped up from 5 furlongs to 6 furlongs and went to York to compete in the Lowther, it was pretty much a mirror image of her run at Ascot… she came late and looked to have the measure of Miss Amulet but was worried out of it close home. Again, she traded as if she was the winner, matched at 1.12 in the run. Her next assignment saw her drop back to five furlongs and line up in the Group Two Flying Childers at Doncaster where she started the hot favourite. This time she travelled well in behind the leaders before picking it up in the final furlong, but yet again she was worried out of it in the shadow of the post by the horse she had just passed; Youbetterbelieveit who started a 40/1 shot (this time in running punters got burned at a low of 1.04!). Now connections looked like they were unsure of her best trip as they stepped her up to 6f for the Group One Cheveley Park and put cheek pieces on for the first time. She finished last and given Miss Amulet finished second was judged as disappointing and the cheek pieces were thought to be the cause, but it could have equally been the result of a busy season. The head gear was back on (as was a tongue strap) when she made her 3-y-o debut last month in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn at Newmarket, she was ridden as if connections felt the extra furlong would not be a problem and maybe she had had a previous breathing problem at full exertion because this time she was again produced late but this time didn’t stop. She now goes for the 1000 Guineas, where she is likely to place at least. Her action is incredibly smooth, and she looks to have strengthened over the winter. She is bred to stay a mile even if her juvenile campaign showed her to be a filly full of speed. If connections have at last found the key to getting the best out of her, she can go on to greater things this season.

Coltrane

Trainer:- A M Balding Sex :- Colt Age 4 (Foaled 17th Jan 2017) Sire:- Mastercraftsman Dam:- Promise Me Owners:- M and J Mariscotti

Coltrane is a son of Mastercraftsman out of a Montjeu mare, he won the Melrose last season at York and ran very well in the Cesarewitch which is a tough race for 3-y-o’s and remains lightly raced. He can be expected to have strengthened up over the winter he travelled well throughout the race and was just about in front a couple of furlongs out, but ultimately faded to finish 9th and maybe just lacked some strength and experience. Probably his best run of the season was when he won a competitive looking Melrose at York under Oisin Murphy in the style of a progressive young horse. He was in mid division entering the straight but going well and hit the front two out, he had to be kept up to his work, but Murphy never had to get serious with him. What particularly impressed me was that although his previous two runs had come on fast ground, he was able to put in a dominant performance on rain- softened ground that had plenty of cut. He holds a Yorkshire Cup entry and that will provide an indication of where his future lies. I am sure connections will be looking to get some black type with him and although he may prove to be a bit short of top class, he can improve to Group 3 level, he could even be a player in the Cup races this season.

Enbihaar

Trainer:- J&T Gosden Sex :- Mare Age 6 (Foaled 22nd Mar 2015) Sire:- Redoute’s Choice Dam:- Chanterelle Owners:- Hamndan Al Maktoum

Enbihaar is a well-bred Shadwell filly that achieved her highest rating at the end of last season and looks the type to keep improving as she gets older. She is admirably consistent with a 60% winning strike rate and that incl8udes 3 Group Two races namely two successive Lily Langtree Stakes and last season . The fact that she remains in John Gosden’s stable at the age of 6 implies that connections believe that there may be a Group One they can squeeze out of her this season which will enhance her paddock value. A sturdily built filly and not only is she consistent but she is versatile too having proved effective between 11 furlong and 2 miles, and on ground that has varied from good to firm to soft… all in all the kind of horse that you would love to own! She seems quite straight forward in her racing too, she tends to travel just off the pace, travels an
