SOGO relies upon highly self-motivated, goal oriented staff who are able to communicate well to large groups representing a broad range of ages, including kids, parents, volunteers, club members, sponsors, government agencies, and the general public. SOGO is run by a talented group of people working closely together in a positive and creative environment. The team consists of a volunteer steering committee, three permanent staff, a number of paid hourly coaches, and over a hundred volunteers.

The Level 3 Activity Planner is a part-time (3-5 hours per week during the SOGO seasons), seasonal hourly position, hourly rate based on experience in the range of $20 to $22 per hour.

Key Goals for the Level 3 Planner position:

● Developing the Fall Level 3 season Activity plan ● Work closely with the Level 3 coaches (volunteer and paid) and the SOGO Chair to deliver a successful Level 3 program Program structure: Foothills is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run sports club that provides orienteering training and competition opportunities for its members, and promotes the development of orienteering in Southern . The SOGO program is one of the club’s most important development programs. This program is guided by the club’s Junior Development Committee, which is chaired by the club’s VP Junior Development. The program is implemented by the SOGO Head Coach and the Program Coordinator in collaboration with the other Head Coaches for SOGO Level 3 (ages 12-18), SOGO Squirts (ages <6), SOGO Access (our program for kids with disabilities), and SOGO@School.

Desired Skills & Qualifications ● Understanding of Orienteering ’s Long Term Athlete Development guide ● Understanding of the physical, mental, and navigational skills required to successfully participate in orienteering. ● O100 Officials certification ● NCCP qualifications would be an asset ● Orienteering software experience required: including Condes, OCAD, MeOS, OE2003, SportIdent software, GPS related tools ● Experience coaching orienteering (or similar sport) to youth ● Proven personal communication skills – to be able to interact positively with junior participants, parents, club members, and other stakeholders. ● Experience in volunteer management or leadership ● Proven ability to determine the most important things to work on in order to meet the overall goals of the program on budget and with minimal supervision ● Proven ability to work independently and from home/remote locations ● Flexible attitude

Responsibilities:

● Developing the Fall Level 3 season Activity plan, including ● Choosing appropriate locations for Thurs and Sun Level 3 sessions in collaboration with the SOGO Chair and other Level 3 coaches ● Identify skills that will inform each session’s agenda and activities based on the Level 3 lesson plan database ● Ensure the skills match Orienteering Canada’s LTAD skills progression ● Set course (check if necessary) and write lesson plans weekly that will be implemented by the SOGO Level 3 coaches ● Prepare map for printing, and forward relevant info to SOGO Chair for i
